This has been a fascinating series that has aired on PBS in America. I've missed a few episodes, though I saw the last episode tonight. Hopefully I can get the whole series for the holidays or something like that. Anyone else seen this fine production?
Like you, I saw some episodes, but not the entire thing. Anything Ken Burns does is a class act. Maybe a few too many talking heads - the survivors remembering - and, as one critic observed, too little identification of who these people are now.
The military parts were hard to watch but clearer as to what the difficulties were than some documentaries I've seen. I was a child and young teen ager during World War II so have always been interested to know more. During that war there were no television images every night. We went to the movies on Saturday afternoon and closely watched the news reels shown: lots of bombing of Germany, very little explanation of anything.
This was one of the times I wish we had a fully working tv and could get PBS. I'll have to see what the series cost and think about buying it as a family/school gift. Ken Burns does such wonderful work, I'm sure this series is terrific.
