Time travel

I love books that have characters who go into the past or the future, or books in which time is manipulated in some way. I loved The Time Machine by H. G. Wells. In The Guns of the South, people from the future go back to the Civil War and give machine guns to the South so the South wins. In The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, time moves faster in the Land than it does in the real world. Even in one of the Harry Potter books, there was a plotline in which the characters went back in time and saw their past actions from a different perspective. Any other recommendations for stories in which time plays a role?

The Timewars series by Simon Hawke (real name Nicholas Yermakov).

the time travellers wife. brilliant. be warned, it is a love story, but not of the heaving breasts, harlequin romance type. it is one of my favourite books and does a great job of the time travel. 2 thumbs up and a twirl.

I'll also mention Crichton's Timeline Another book I enjoyed was Reilly's Temple. Whilst not time travel per se, the book comprises two separate stories that are interlinked - one set in the modern day and the other in the 16th Century.

Slaughterhouse-Five and Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. SH5 is very unconventional; the story revolves around his experiences in WWII.

Chris Genoa's Foop! is a ridiculous time travel comedy. It's a great read, as long as you're OK with bizarre fiction. It's not traditional SF by any means.

I'll also second RitalinKid's Vonnegut recommendations.

Beauty by Sherri Tepper - not your average time travel story (if such exists) but probably my favourite book on the concept.

Stephen King's The Dark Tower series deals with people out of their time.

I second the Doomsday Book recommendation, and another great Connie Willis novel having to do with time travel is To Say Nothing of the Dog. To Say Nothing... is much more lighthearted though, it's kind of a romp, as opposed to Doomsday Book.

Time travel usually hurts my head. The whole time I'm shouting "That's not how it would work! You've just ruined everything!" I think everyone has their own time travel theories.

I just finished reading Amazon by Barbara Walker. It seemed to be mostly a how-to manual for Goddess worship and a condemnation of Christianity, so I can't say that I cared for it all that much. It was interesting, though, to see how an ancient person might react to modern technology.

I suggest "The Door Into Summer" by Robert A. Heinlein. It's about a guy tricked into going into suspended animation for 30 years and when he gets out he discovers that he has the ability to travel back in time to get revenge. It's a good read.
