Like some others, I've been posting here for a while - a week or so - then noticed this introduction section.
Well, HI!
I go in reading spurts and dry spells - and I'm in a spurt right now. I get to where I have to have 2 - 3 books in the queue, after the one I'm reading now, or I get the jitters. It's like I used to have to have an unopened pack of Marlboros to break into after the pack I was smoking - that was before I gave up the evil weed for good, 4 years ago. But I'll never break the reading habit!
I like offbeat books, horror, fantasy, and escapist fare. It can't be too sensational, lurid, or ghastly for my taste. I also like to read "real" books too.
My principal passion (after my wife, and books) is the classical guitar (which I play professionally), and classical music in general.
I love to write and to participate in forums - I also post on the GSI Guitar Forum for classical and flamenco guitar, under the same handle - Libre (sorta stands for books and also freedom).
My real name is Marc.
Very glad to join this group, where books are valued.

You've got to love a place where reading is the primary topic. 9 times out of 10, when I overhear a conversation on the bus commuting, or elsewhere, they are arguing about a sports team or gossiping, or some other dribble. Very rarely do I hear people discussing a book, and this is New York City. I do see a lot of people reading, though - and I'm one of them.
Everyone that participates in this forum is Grade-A in my scheme of things. We may disagree about some books, or a concept, or the significance of an event, whatever. I may even get heated sometimes. Just know, that each and every one of you, by the simple fact that you post on this forum, is far above the "average" dope out there, who has never read a book for pleasure. Your thoughts interest me.
Thank you.

You should check out the General Chat area! :D

I admire your patience, discipline, and tenacity. You must have these to play classical guitar professionally.

I have been playing for about two years. I am learning some fingerstyling, but mostly just having fun. Never exposed to music as a kid, and have a lot of catching up to do!

Welcome, Libre, to our world!

Thanks again, to all , for your warm welcome.

Peder - good to bump into you again.

leckert - I noticed your avitar some time ago. I used to fingerpick and played folk as well - a long time ago! My heros were Dave Van Ronk and Doc Watson. One day I discovered Andres Segovia and my world changed. That was more than 30 years ago. I've been a dedicated classical player ever since. If it's not inappropriate to mention, and if you are interested in classical guitar, click on my link below.

Hey Libre. I was wondering if you'd make it round here. I'm jealous that you can have books "in queue". I on the other hand often can't decide what to read next until I've wandered around the house from shelf to shelf whining for an hour or so.

I like to have books waiting in line.
Once, I moved into a spare room in my sister's house. She and her husband were very avid readers. This spare room was where they stored all their books! There were hundreds of titles. I read most of them while I lived there. The most unforgettable is an acknowledged classic - The Jungle by Upton Sinclair.

Glad to have you here libre, thanks for posting in the top 5 horror thread. you've definitely provided some good names to consider. Hope you like it here, we have some good folks. :)

Hello Marc! Welcome! I enjoy horror and fantasy as well. Way cool that you play the guitar. I tried to self teach myself to play the guitar (electric), but only picked up one string. But...I quit, lol. Oh well, perhaps another time? Again - Welcome! :)

P.S. Gratz on breaking the smoking habit!
