True - explaining him is a waste of time. People will just have to trust your judgement when you say it's an excellent experience. And if they don't, well, their loss, really.

I will ignore that blatant generalisation about men.

thanks. i am still in my pj's and have yet to put on my pc suit.

there's a quote which goes something like, the wisest man realizes he knows nothing, or some other such nonsense. it's early, my attempts to stroke your ego are sad at best. i need more coffee.....
 
once i am finished fierce invalids i will definitley read still life. i have heard that about frog pj's, that it just fell short of his other books.
 
My husband says the same thing, Another Roadside Attraction is ok but probably his least favorite Tom Robbins book and one of his favorites is my least liked one Village Incognito. I liked the characters & story in Village Incognito but it felt like something was missing to me, all most like it was a rushed effort. As for Another Roadside Attraction I think it is one of my faves for a lot of personal reasons that go way back to some of my kiddy years, who isn't fascinated with a flea circus?
 
Completely agree Tom is just fun!
I've only read about 3 of his books but I will definately go back for more.
Right now my favorite is Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates.
The last one I read was Skinny Legs and All, that one took me a bit to get into. The beginning didn't suck me in right away but by the end I couldn't wait to get a chance to read it and find out what happened.
 
well i finished fihfhc and didn't love it. it took me a while to finish and i think i just didn't click with switters. i did like the parrot,"people of zee wurl, relax." but it by no means has turned me off tom.
 
Wow, you read Even Cowgirls Get the Blues at the age of 10 !!??
I tried to read it at the age of 22 and found it kind of tough reading- lots of philosophy!
 
Time to dust this thread off.
Love Tom Robbins writing style and ideas.
Found and devoured ECGTB at 15. The adventure and imagery of the story just captured my attention.
Truly enjoyed Still Life with Woodpecker.

Joining this forum will probably get me to read ECGTB again. A trip down Nostalgia Lane, back to a simpler time. Actually at 15 it was pretty much a Dicken's novel. The best of times and the worst of times.

Someone mentioned he was fun to read. Couldn't have said it better!
