Greed of a bookworm has no limits. Or maybe it has?
Have you ever given up reading a book, because it was too long?

I don't really mind if it's long book or a short book. I just want it to be a GOOD book. I quit a book if it's short or long. I love books and reading but why to read a boring book? Life is too short and the world is FULL of books! Why keep wading though something you don't like???? I try to do only things that give me joy in my life. Work gets in the way of that dammit

Exactly. I used to insist on always finishing a book I started, but then I started the Lord of the Rings. It occured to me at that point that there was absolutely no way on Earth I was going to sit through such a long and pointless pile of tripe. I struggled on for a bit, but I was only managing about 2 pages a day before the boiling rage within in built up to the point where it was just becoming too dangerous for the people around me. So I stopped. I just put the book down and walked away. And nothing terrible happened. I didn't suffer angst about the one that beat me. The ceiling didn't crash down on my head to punish me for my wrongdoing. I just went a bought a new book.SillyWabbit said:Life is too short and the world is FULL of books! Well, im sure the fact that I give up on stuff that bores me is a sign that I am just far too picky

The bigger the better -- Books, Raven, books.

Ich kämpfe said:It also happened to me while reading The Stand, I got 300 pages or so into it and just stopped. The very beginning was excellent and then it just turned to trash. That was many years ago and I hear good things about the book and I might try it again since it might just have a really boring beginning.
{Tigress} said:I haven't read that yet, so I'll keep that in mind. That's what I meant about just pluggin' away through the rough parts -- I sometimes have to wade through a bit of mud to get to the good stuff, but I don't mind as generally it was worth it.
And of course I can't let Raven off the hook here... Fuzzy huh? Nope, nevermind, I just can't go there.
Ich kämpfe said:Well, I hope you have better luck than I did since I obviously got stuck in the mud.
