Top Ten Shoplifted Items in UK

Just seen this on the TV:

10. Meat, especially steaks;
09. Brand coffee;
08. Electric toothbrushes;
07. Medicines/Pregancy tests;
06. DVDs;
05. Brand batteries;
04. Clothing;
03. Brand cosmetics/toiletries;
02. Booze;
01. Brand razorblades.

The food, coffee and razorblades shock me. The rest I can see (and have seen) thanks to my experience living in an ugly city.

I was talking to a girl who works in a nearby shopping mall. The most commonly stolen items she sees are thongs for pre-teens. How sad.

Razor blades were lifted often in the US too, you have to ask for them at the pharmacy now because they moved them behind the counter.

Not surprised about the razor blades. THose things are very small and frightfully expensive. At the supermarket a little alarm goes off when you open the case and a shop attendant will casually walk past. Not sure why. If you had any sense and wanted to steal them you'd take them out and then stuff them into your bag when you were in the pasta aisle or something.

I would have thought condoms would be on the list.

How gross! Sorry, I'm very liberal minded but surely underwear of this type isn't exactly appropriate for that age group.

Boys don't want to use them and, judging by the 12 year olds with maternally plump bellies, it's not an issue. Babies are this year's must have, you know, for any self-respecting pre-teen.

Anything Britney has must be cool... :rolleyes:

Hmmm, honestly I thought candy would've been higher on the list... That's what I've stolen most of in my shoplifting 'career' :p I was a naughty child.... not quite naughty enough for the pre-teen thongs though. Yich.

I tried shoplifting in Denmark, but all I got away with was a handful of spunk. Of course, someone in Holland took the whole drop off my hand. ;)

Yea. I'm surprised that candy isn't on there. I wasn't at all shocked by the rest of the list. Razorblades cost so much, and they would be so easy to steal. In fact, my brother's girlfriend (compulsive shoplifter), used to love to steal them. Meat is also costly. I'f you'll steal the pregnancy test you'll probably steal meat to feed the kid when he is old enough.

This whole topic reminds me of the Jane's Addiction video, the Caught Stealing one. I was caught taking a pair of earrings when I was about 12, my mom was so mad I had the money for them in my pocket but I just wanted to see if I could do it, I'm not sneaky enough I guess :eek:

Candy wouldn't appear on the list as we're talking about organised shoplifting; not just kids taking a bubble gum here or a Mars there.

Oh organised shoplifting... hmmm. People organise to shoplift razorblades? Sheesh. expensive stuff I can understand, you can sell it and make money on it, but I didn't figure you could make all that much on razorblades... of all things...

You'd be surprised. You can fit more razorblades into a bag than you can meat or coffee.
