I'm looking for accurate, informative books (fiction or non-fiction welcome) that portray everyday life, culture and attitudes of 1880-1920. Particularly I am also looking for books describing people's experience with adversity and how they and the people around them respond to their "differences". I'd like something more off the beaten path of the "classics".
Well-researched historical fiction is acceptable too.
