... untitled poem

She was a nurse practitioner by day, a novel writer by night.
She made many mistakes, no perspective in sight.

I was promised 40 acres and a mule, money in the bank,
jewels in June. The diamond earring was a wedding reminder,
apple cider house rules say you have to be in bed by morning.

Dead corpse, time elapse, I said to you, NASA TV.
They can't keep their hands off each other, a jealous Spaniard,
illegal Mexican immigrants. Wearing their hat backward, a woman
spits soap, a caldron of smoke, hippies with the hustle and flow.

Backward skyline, Las Vegas a plenty, money to waste,
fender benders, lawsuits, silk shyster and a timely dying.

I love the way your poems fool me. They start out coherent, so I keep reading, but by the end, I have a headache.
