Weather-how much attention do you pay to it?

ah, the weather. i used to watch the weather channal all the time when i was younger. i really do not know why.
now i just check it once in a while (usually mornings) so i'll know what to wear. =P

We got the same cold front. What a huge difference in just a few minutes! It was warm and muggy, with a slight breeze this morning at 11:30, and within 30-45 mintues the wind was hard out of the north and the temp fell rapidly. My dh was outside all afternoon at work, and while I was enjoying the open windows, he came in and insisted I shut any that allowed the "cold" air to blow on him :) Ah, Autumn on the praire :D

According to weather.com it's 42 F degrees (5.5 C) this morning....last day of September...seems like just a few days ago it was 90 F....pretty quick changes here in the Mid-Atlantic region of the USA.

Well, considering where I live and the two hurricanes that have just blown through, I'd be fool not to keep a close eye on the weather. I wouldn't change places with abecedarian, though. Tornados scare me! They sneak up on you, with hurricanes, you have time to get out of the way!

Also, I love to wear jeans and a t-shirt, and we've just gotten our first cool front of the season, and the first thing I pulled out was a faded old pair of blue-jeans. :D Without the cool front, it would have been shorts. (I just sweat too much to wear long jeans in hot weather, ick :p )

It's been uggy and muggy in South Florida lately, which means we get a break from the 90 degree heat that usually opresses us. I feel lost without looking at the weather news, especially since last year it was us who got the brunt of hurricane hits. I think it's interesting that the weather patterns have changed. In past years hurricanes used to avoid us and skid past the east coast, but the last couple years really show a change in the weather. I feel like it's just one of the signs that our world is undergoing drastic change, even within our lifetime....

Fall has officially arrived here on the lone prairie!! It was 65 F yesterday, and today we'll be doing well to reach 45 F. The wind was blowing hard when I went out at 5:50 to help the cats look for the paper. It was pretty cool then, but when dh left at 6:30 it was COLD. The air felt sharp and the wind was shaking the house. I have to go out later and go to the post office and grocery store. Maybe I'll make chili for supper tonight:D

When I'm here in Canada I pay *a lot* of attention. In the summer I always check the humidex in the morning because it's usually ridiculous where I am. Then around this time of year I'm checking to see whether it's likely to freeze so I can determine if it's bike riding weather or not. In winter (Dec - May some time) I'll be checking to see what the wind chill is and if any new snow is expected.

Back in Australia I really only check to see if it's raining (unusual) and in the summer time to see how hot it's going to get and if/when a cool change will arrive.

Is that the coldest it's been so far ABC?

We've had frost a few times now. Almost all the leaves are down....I think one night was in the upper 20's so far.

During Hurricane season I will pay close attention to the weather channel. Mainly because when a Hurricane warning goes into effect have to go stay at the hospital. For the rest of the year I don't pay much attention. There are really only 2 seasons around here.

My parents were hit by two storms last year. One landed a mile north of their home, the other a mile south. Only two weeks apart. Mom said the best way to know you're screwed is when the weather channel goes and parks its van down your street! It is pretty eerie when the weather channel people show up and start reporting in your area.

Of course, I always wonder who those crazy people are that get sent out to the *beach* during storms. Does the whole office sit around saying "Ya know our new intern Bob? I don't like him.... Lets send him to the beach for the hurricane."

We had a hard freeze a week or so ago, but the high was 80 just a couple of days ago. The wind is part of why it feels so bad right now. I drove to town earlier and had a hard time keeping my van on the road.

We have the same thing here today. Sustained 30 mph winds with gusts pushing 50. You know it's going to be a rough day when the expected windspeeds and temperature are the same number. Feels like Oklahoma.

Yup, you might be from the prairies if..

I always laugh when I hear talk about "The Windy City" being Chicago..did these people ever come out here to Wichita or OKC?

Need any peppers, need any peppers. Jalapenos, habaneros, serrano, and any other kind that you can think of. Enough for chili for the entire family for several nights at least. :)

Aren't serranos the skinny red peppers? They would be perfect for Kung Pao Chicken..

Yes, serranos are skinny and mature to a red color. You may also be thinking of the Cayenne pepper. I have about 500 cayenne peppers now hanging and drying in our laundry room above the laundry sink. After they are thoroughly dried I will grind them into "red pepper" and store in jars. Good for pizza and pasta and many other uses. They would also be good fresh for your chicken dish.

I"m in Chicago, and we've got wild weather all the time. It hasn't even gotten cold here yet.
It's amazing to me that every single year leading into winter how many people (Chicago natives, so less) always, always always complain about how cold it is. I was out the other day, and mind you, it was like 50 degrees, and I actually heard someone say that it was cold and they are tired of it. I looked at the nut sideways, and asked if she was serious, because it's NOT cold YET!!!!!

There's a saying here in Chicago "If you don't like the weather, wait a minute, it'll change" How true, how true!

I watch the weather too. I guess I have to watch it to insure that the kids are properly dressed for school. Like I said, Chicago weather changes like the wind:p

I think that saying "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes" is claimed by a lot of regions! :D

Spent last night cowering with flashlights and candles at the ready, turns out I didn't need them. After temperatures of 71 yesterday, it's 38 and dropping this morning. I wanted to stay in bed!

I'm glad you're safe! Now that you know where those candles and flashlights are, you probably won't need them for awhile.. but that's just A-OK:cool:
