Weird email

oh, my, Mr. Marques Rex, are you ok? i know it seems too weird to show worry to someone i don't know much. but that episode sounds really horroble.

I don't know what else to say, but please TAKE CARE of yourself. don't go to that chat room. (sorry, i might be too naive. )

anyway, Have a nice day, ! :)

Watercrystal, naah not naive at all. Thanks again for your concern
Well that last episode I mentioned happened over a year ago, so I'm fine, thanks!
Was a real shocking kick in the nuts when it happened though!

Rex, if you want to track the email address down, then changing Message Headers to 'Full' under the Mail Display Settings option for Hotmail will allow you to see the IP address of the sender.

Then just use a program like NIC Whois to trace the IP to its source. Of course with a Yahoo account they will remain fairly anonymous, but it may be able to chase it to which region/country the email was sent from.

anyone knows something about it?

In your Hotmail account, goto Options, Mail Display Settings, and then change Message Headers to 'Full'. Then look at any email and it will show you a lot more information about the sender, including the IP address the email originated from.

As for the Gmail thing, i believe that peoples emails could be accessed by using a search engine that matched the results to peoples private emails. All a little bizarre, i'm not sure whether this actually happened or was just a rumour.

Okies, this is kind of freaky.

New developments.

But first of all, thank you phill T for your tips, I have managed to track down the IP address and tracked it down to Finland- Helsinki, funnily enough!

Secondly, you know that close good friend- the cop I mentioned from Finland, well she received the same email later, bascially a pastiche of messages copied and pasted from this forum-selectively. I didn't realise this when I got them, but now thinking about them, they were all views and opinions and issues that she felt strongly about and designed to perhaps rile her up specifically. It was targeted specific things that were sent.
She's had the message checked and got a specialist data analyser in- and on her computer and thinks her computer is being hacked- I know little about these things.

Anyways, the desired result has been achieved she was very upset as was I and we're no longer friends :(

Lesson- I guess even in a decent clean moderated forum like this, be careful of what you say, and never underestimate th underhandedness that people can be capable of and motives even from seemingly simple and innocent posts. Seems far fetched I know!

Wow! How completely bizarre, Rex! So sorry about your lady friend. :( I guess I haven't seen much about your posts that have been objectionable on a personal level, but then, I haven't read every one so who knows. But you'd think that she'd be more willing to discuss concepts or allow you to explain context, so maybe not meant to be. Sigh...

Good luck.

Cathy

Sorry to hear about your friend Rex. That is terrible! :(

But, I have to say, if she is going to close a friendship just because she does not like some of the things you say then maybe you are better off not knowing them? I mean, surely you have to respect the views of those you are close to even if you don't hold those views? :)

BUT, the burning question is... who the HELL sent that. If I was you, I would be SO pissed about this. Actually, im pretty pissed about it and it's not even me that it's happened to! I think I would do everything in my power to find out who it is.

I share Wabbit's opinions completely... and I'm pretty upset that someone would do something like this!

What an underhanded way to communicate. :( You're right about watching what you say, none of us here are 100% anonymous and the written word lasts a long, long time.

That's ok. I will never watch what I say. I will stand by every last word. This is me, thease are my words. If somebody doesnt like them well that's there problem. :)

I agree with Wabbit. I haven't said anything here that is untrue or mean-spirited. This is how I live my life.

A picture for you, Marquis Rex

was trying to decode this case like a detective. just found i got myself mess up. Enjoy this. :D

Awwww, that's a beuatiful picture Watercrystal!

Why thank you!

Thanks folks, for your sentiments.
In terms of the culprit, because there is a high degree of probability that this message is being read by said culprit, all I'll say is that I'm far more advanced in this private investigation then they might imagine.
Let's just leave it at that for now.
It all makes sense now.....but for nothing I'VE done!

You forgot to add: "And if I don't like someone else's words, well,I will simply put them on my 'ignorance list' - whoops! I meant 'ignore list'.

Marquis Rex...why all the fuss over a stupid email from someone who lives in another part of the world?!?!?!
