I'm more familiar with his work with Nickle Creek..I'd start with their cds first. My favorite song they did was on a collaboration album with the Chieftains: Further Down the Old Plank Road. The Raggle Taggle Gypsies has always been a favorite song of mine since grade school, but their version is utterly awesome.

Yes, tis a very slippery slope! From Chris Thile, you can get into Mark O'Connor, who has collaborated with God and Everybody. Check out his work with Edgar Meyer and Yoyo Ma: Appalachian Journey. Emily's Reel is my favorite on this one. O'Conner is also heavily involved with The Transatlantic Session project.
