It's Potty Time is a favorite here. Bright, big pictures, not to mention the cool flushing sound that is made when the button is pressed. It's on week #2 as the go-to book for night time reading. I would post two other books, but they went to bed with them and I'm not about to stir them awake at 6:10 a.m.:)

Farmer Duck and Percy the Parkeeper Stories (by Nick Butterworth) are the current favorites. (Daugher is nearly 4.).

It's strange, they go through phases. One will be completely ignored only to be picked up and demanded every night for 10 days on end.

I am reading them - On the Banks of Plum Creek, Abarat: Days of Magic, Nights of War; and Wuthering Heights.

They are reading: Junk - Melvyn Burgess; Abhorsen - Garth Nix; Candy - Kevin Brooks, amongst others.

Sounds like some good reading.:)

Okay, another big hit is- Shiny, Touchy, Smelly Colors by Dawn North. The book has a good scratch and sniff section on each page, not to mention a "touchy" area where they can feel a red knitted-cap, as well as reptile like scales on a dinosaur. It's neck and neck between this one and the potty book.;) :D

I just read the silliest book to Ethan just now, called Daddy is a Doodlebug by Bruce Degan. Corny, but kind of cute too. (And short!)

An Usborne book called Viking World He's not into reading, so it's very thrilling when he picks it up!

my daughter has been reading some of that, too. she was studying vikings and barbarians earlier this year, but has now moved onto a bit later period of medieval history.

there were a couple of really good fiction books she liked that we read as part of the educational process. if you want, i'll post the names of them.

Are the fiction books about Vikings and barbarians? Yes, thank you, I'd like that. He seems to be interested in things like that. He has a large Usborne book that shows the inner workings of an ancient castle that he is fond of. Probably because it has lots of pictures :)

My daughter is reading The Long Lost Map-Ulysses Moore

She is really enjoying it , but when she needs help with some words she comes and asks.

My girls are reading The Dear Dumb Diary series and my oldest boy is reading Lionboy by Zizou Corder. My youngest likes to be read his African Wild Dogs (non-fiction) book we borrowed from the library.

Excuse me while I have a proud mama moment...my 17 year old son ( formerly a reluctant reader) is reading and enjoying Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank..and is anxiously waiting for Earth Abides to arrive at the library. My 12 year old dd is reading Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein....
I'm also reading aloud The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe...again.

My daughter is on book X of the Roman Mysteries by Caroline Lawrence.

Our recent reading aloud books have been His Dark Materials (Philip Pullman), The Thirteen Clocks and the Wonderful O (James Thurber) and we're now on 'Diving Adventure' by H Willard Price. The 'Adventure' books are terribly dated in many ways, but she really enjoys them. (She is XI years old, for fans of Roman stuff)

Someone had recommended the following from this site: You're Thinking About Doughnuts by Michael Rosen. It's being reread by my 2nd grader. He is also reading The Dangerous Book for Boys. My daughter is reading The River by Gary Paulsen.

My 10 year old is reading "Leven Thumps and the Eyes of Want"

My 8 year old is reading "Icefire"

My 7 year old just finished the Artemis Fowl graphic novel.

They're also reading Calvin and Hobbes and improving their vocabulary in the process.

My 9year old just started inkheart, she found it a bit scary in the begining, but now seems to like it.

No big surprises with the little one, she's tearing through the Harry Potter series. The 11 year old daughter enjoys historical fiction. My 10 year old son loves Hardy Boys books. ;-)

My 12 year old is reading...

My 12 year old daughter is reading Ballet Shoes. The book I am currently reading to her before bed is Heidi. I think The Wrinkle in Time series is next.

Historical fiction is a great suggestion (especially for homeschooling parents like myself).
