This past week I haven't spent much time on here because I've been so busy with work -- lame, I know.

I'm a research assistant for a group that is investigating colon cancer and if there's a blood protein that can be used to predict it (or at least detect it earlier). But it's not really what I want to do, so I might start looking elsewhere (shh, don't tell my boss).

It makes me wonder, what do (or did) YOU do? And do (did) you like your job? :)
 
I work in public relations at the Library of Congress. My job is 19% public relations, 1% librarian, 80% institutional politics.
 
I run a restaurant. My advice to you is the same advice I give to everyone: If you don't like your job, leave. You spend so much of your life working... if you don't enjoy it, don't waste your time there.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
 
I'm a student, in my third year of a BSc with a double-major in Psychology and Philosophy (this is my last year - bachelors only take 3 years in NZ). Next year I'm hoping to do Honours in Psyc, and then head on to become a Clinical Psychologist.

Good advice, but much easier said than done ;-)

That's awesome! I have my degrees in psychology too, and I've always leaned toward the clinical/ counseling aspect of it. Good luck :)
 
Wow... I'm kinda glad I found this thread. I'll be starting my freshman year of college in the fall and even though everyone says I don't need to pick a major yet, I'm still freakin out a little. I wanna do something that I really like, but I don't want to to have to worry financially in the future.

I can sure say I'm quitting the job I have now, though. GOD... I hate it, but it's just a teenage sort of job.

You're right, of course. Change and financial uncertainty is intimidating. But ultimately I think it's something you need to get past in order to make a positive change for your future.
 
I was a stay at home mom for many years and working part-time as a Real Estate Agent. Last summer, I decided to go back to school to finish my education that I started many years ago and am now working towards my BSW (Social work) and would like to continue to get a Masters afterwards. I'm leaning towards working specifically in the social work field dealing with domestic violence/sexual assault and child abuse advocacy. While in school, I am also a DV/SA advocate for a crisis center. This is only a volunteer position, but it is sure going to look good on my resume when I graduate with honors.

Nice! How do you find Psychology and Philosophy go along. I remember the first reading in my Philosophy of Science class was about Freud and his theories of sleep, dreaming and the unconscious mind.
 
Translator and proofreader. Mostly general content, marketing, PR, advertising, brochures, instruction manuals and catalogues for high end watchmakers and other luxury brands.
 
I wish I had an interesting job like some of you guys. I work for the water department for the city. Water meters to be more specific. whoopeeee

Part of my duties as secretary, bookkeeper, property manager extraordinaire is I get to read electric meters once a month (tenants get the bill.)

If water meters are like electric meters, I feel your pain.:D

I used to read electric meters and from my experience, they aren't much alike. If you're on a property, then it's an apartment complex or something? I read them in neighborhoods going in and out of backyards, fighting with dogs all day in the stifling heat.

Water meters are generally in people's front yards, so that's kept to a minimum. But they're in the ground which opens up a totally different book on weird crap.
