What I've learnt from TBF

New Year's around the corner, and reflecting on my most memorable (albeit a little short) stay in TBF so far, I recount the things that I've learnt here this year. They are, in no particular order, as follows:

1. There are people who actually don't like Earthsea (sniff sniff, how could they be so cruel?)
2. I don't read at a snail's pace
3. Who Jose Saramango/Paulo Coelho is
4. Historical fiction is actually very interesting.
5. You can buy an island (or the photo, it wasn't clearly established the last i checked) for $20,000.
6. What hobnobs really are.

I know I learnt more, but I'm leaving for my Christmas eve dinner now.

It was a real island but I suspect the seas around there are full of murderous pirates.

And surely you also learned that Forum is full of mad people.

 You're very foolish aren't you?

I try Drizzy, I try (or am I deluding myself that I try?).

In this hard world a little tomfoolery helps to while the hours away though. Don't you agree?

I leaned that the penguins are still the single most evil threat to mankind and fish on this planet!

My time on the book forum has tought me to be afraid.. Now I know what kind of people there are out there in the world.

7. I learnt that Saramango is actually not a type of tropical fruit, but really a writer called Saramago.
8. I learnt to never ever misspell my wordz lest I invoke the wrath of the inhouse spelling nazi - who will promptly make me to laugh out loud and give my family cause to worry about the dangers of the internet.

I learnt to spell the words "pedantic" and "anal retentive" :D

I learned that there are other people out there like me. And that is a good thing.
I learned that there are other people out there absolutely unlike me. And this too is a good thing.
I learned that no matter how similar or dissimilar we are, each one of us has a valid point of view.
I learned that it is good to read outside my "comfort zone", to try new genres and authors. I just might find I really like them.
I learned that friendship can come in many disguises.

I'm still learning that lesson :)

I've learnt that even after a number of years reading, there are still many authors who have the ability to surprise you

I've learnt that there are some cool websites out there, and that Martin's more likely to find them than Wabbit ;)

Yesterday I learned that the spork queen has her own forum

And finally - every topic degenerates into spam
