What was the name of that book? London broker true story

Hi,

I was thinking of my favourite books today and I rememberded this book I read. It is the story of a history student (if I remember correctly) that gets into brokerage through aquaintances. The guy was kind of drifting not knowing what do do next in his life long hair ponytail, drugs,without plans or ambitions.. Once he becomes a broker he get's into this vicious typical broker's life: of cocaine, sex and twisted experiences. He then becomes ambitious and wants to be number . Has anyone read the book? What was the title?

Sounds slightly similar to "Wolf of Wall Street", but that broker starts out as a straight arrow, so I doubt that's what you're looking for....Anyone else have any ideas?
