What Would Happen If...

Personally I really do not give a darn whether the man was born here or not. I just wanted to see how you all felt about this issue.

I am an Independent if you are curious.

What leads you to believe that he wasn't born "here"?

Also, moving this to the right area.

So... why is this on the Film And TV section?

EDIT: Nevermind, I just saw Sparks put it in the right place.

But that's the bit I don't understand - how it's even a question, what makes anyone think he wasn't born in the US. It's like saying "I don't really give a damn whether the earth is round or not"; by even raising the question, you're suggesting that there might be some truth to claims that the earth is flat. So far, I've seen a ton of people speculate that he wasn't born in the US, but not one shred of evidence. Is there anything behind the whole birth conspiracy nonsense other than "AAAAAH! Black man in the White house!"? If so, what? You're the one always advocating "science", Aqua, so what sort of proof do you think it would take to convince people that yes, he was born in the US?

And thus the gauntlet was thrown down.

Whether he was 'born here' or not, the issue that matters in this discussion, is his citizenship. Honestly, I haven't seen any viable evidence to refute his right to hold office based on this arguement, and believe me, I've had lots of people send me emails aimed to make me doubt President Obama's US cititzenship. IF such evidence should surface, then the impeachment process might be in order.

*Besides, viewers of SG-1 will tell testify that Barak Obama is indeed an alien; born on the planet Chuak, son of Teal'C and Drey'auc, and his mom and dad named him Rya'C:whistling:

Why would be not be a citizen? He has a U.S. Passport. Case closed.

To be President he has to be a natural born citizen. He could have at 18 become a German citizen and when he turned 22, changed his mind and become a U.S. Citizen again.

From the law of the land:
No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

That's what I mean; I haven't seen anything to refute his citizenship.
Aside from that Chulak connection, that is. All those emails got old fast...

AquaBlue, in a recent poll it was shown that 51% of Likely GOP Primary Voters are Birthers. What are the larger ramifications of that?

All I want to know what could happen if the allegations are true. I'm just curious of the process that would follow such a disclosure.

I do not stand on any corner...believe me.

I believe that if the allegations were proven true, the process of impeachment would be started. As we learned with President Clinton, that doesn't automatically mean the president would leave office early. Most likely, there would be a loud public outcry, but nothing much would come of it.

Getting back to the original point, how would the allegations hypothetically be proven true? We already know that the birther conspiracy nuts are ready to ignore any and all evidence that Obama was, in fact, born in the US, without ever presenting any evidence whatsoever that he wasn't. So what sort of evidence would they consider decisive one way or the other? Or are they - *gasp* - simply lying their heads off in order to score cheap political points off people's wishful thinking and/or prejudice?

Not wanting to pick a side is an admirable quality. But not all arguments consist of two equally valid sides.

Really? Wow. That severe a punishment. That's what I wanted to know.

I have a question: What is the reason for the rule that US presidents must be born here?

For example I was born in Cuba but left before my second birthday. I have lived in America for 41 years as a citizen. Why the rule? What' the purpose of it? A person in my situation for example could make a fine leader. Not me of course.

Why the rule? Purpose?

Just looking at the info in this Wikepedia article, I'd say the underlying idea was to prevent undue foreign influence on the presidential office, or at least any appearance of undue influence. A first generation US citizen might still have close (family)ties to their native country, and could possibly be negatively influenced, particularly in matters of foreign policy.
