What would you assume Aliens to be like?

First contact has always fascinated me. I have always wondered what it would be like. With the size of our very own galaxy, it is highly probable that there is life on some planet, not very far away in Galactic terms. In my maiden short story 'The Final Colony', I have tried to explore this..... This is also my maiden post so waving out a hello....LP

I think aliens would be like Alf from the 1980s TV show. You know, like The Fonz, but from Mars...

Vastly superior to the best of humans in all respects.
Not mosses or fungi, porpoises, chimps, whales or elephants. We already have names for them. :)

I would assume that alien life forms would be at least as diverse as terrestrial ones, which means most of them would be single-cell organisms, worms, and plants. Assuming they've evolved that far.

Agree copy-cat aliens based on earth creatures is a cop-out. I always assumed they would end up like something akin to a cloud consciousness, superior to humans (of course) and not too interested in dealing with humans!....LP

^ We're not really searching for intelligent life, we're just searching for replicas of ourselves. Anything less, or more, will not do.

Aliens will have two arms, two legs, two eyes and be otherwise humanoid in appearance to make them easier to depict in movies and television shows.

My own first novel 'Moonbeams' (on Kindle) also explores the subject of first contact in a way I've not read before, but of course I can't begin to claim I've read *every* book on the subject :)

I'd also comment that trying to write about alien lifeforms that are vastly different to our own has a particularly thorny problem - how do you communicate thought processes in a way that the reader will be able to relate to?

PS - my first post to the forums too, so Hi everyone !

How is that?

Also, welcome.

Plot involves two planets (one being Earth) who start to expand out into the same Galaxy and the way they eventually meet. Without giving anything away, it's nothing like 'First Contact' nor any other alien contact scenario I've read or seen.

Hmmm. I am intrigued.

If I read it and it is a first contact scenario I have read, do I get a refund?
