What's this children's book?

When I was in primary/infants school (1985) I remember reading a book, but can't remember what book it was... any ideas?

All I remember was a black cat and a boy. The cat took the boy to a mountain at night where with the aid of a magic key (I think) they entered the mountain where there were lots of people. I am afraid thats all I remember!

Would love to find out what this book was any ideas appreciated.

I think my kids had that as a pop-up book. The boy encounters a dragon, and a giant, and ends up back in his own room? I can ask if they remember the name!

Don't remember it being pop up, but this is a good lead.
