When you were a kid, who did you read?

I remember really enjoying Laura Ingalls Wilder at one point. I think a couple of my friends made fun of me, me being a boy. I thought they were fine for boys or girls. I guess I'm now enjoying Willa Cather more than I might have, because of early associations.

I loved the Little House books; I read On the Banks of Plum Creek and The Long Winter numerous times since they were my favorites. I also loved Summer On the Salt Fork by Jessie Wiley Voils and Indian Captive by Lois Lenski. I was addicted to the Childhood of Famous Americans series, as well as all those Indian books by Sonia Bleeker-I think I read every single one of them. I really loved biographies and books about America Indians, and archaeology . Another well-worn title from my shelf was my 25 cent garage sale find: The Book Of Indians by Holling C. Holling.

When I was younger I enjoyed reading the Goosebumps books by R. L. Stine and I also read and enjoyed a few of Enid Blyton's books.

I read a lot of the Hardy Boys mysteries and Robert E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian novels. I also remember enjoying Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.

MAD Magazine and comics mostly.

Then I read the Narnia book series which got me into reading more novels. Eventually I got into Stephen King.

I loved Roald Dahl when I was younger (and still do). Other favourite authors included Enid Blyton (both Famous Five books and The Secret Island) and R.L Stine (Goosebumps). I also really enjoyed the Animorph books by KA Applegate.

Um, that's exactly what I would have said!

I also enjoyed Paul Jennings, Enid Blyton, the Babysitters Club Series (is it Ann M. Martin?), and some classics that came with a weekly magazine series, including "Heidi" and "The Secret Garden".

I started with Agatha christie's books. they were cool but after reading like 18 of her's, I thought I should move to something else

Well, I began with Harry Potter and Roald Dahl (I know, so cliche) but soon got bored and ran over to Mary Higgins Clark, Patricia Cornwell, Dean Koontz, Stephen King, and Agatha Christie. Now, I'm into vampire novels, horror, and mystery.

Narnia was good.

I loved Cracked and Mad. I remember Crazy but I don't think I ever read that one. I've still got an old paperback of Mad's Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions.

I used to buy those now and then too. Of course I had to keep them to myself, since my mom would not have thought them nearly as funny as I did;)

My mom wanted to kill me when she found out where all my sarcasm was coming from. Too bad she didn't find all the copies I had! ^^

My kids don't read these publications so I just can't imagine where they get their sarcasm:rolleyes: They like to tell me they learned it all from me:D

If you read those magazines as a child, you just couldn't help being influenced by them. They contributed greatly to my smartassness.:D

Roald Dahl was one author I really enjoyed. I also read several books from the Boxcar Children series. Oh, I loved the "choose your own ending" books R.L. Stine put out... those were more fun than his infamous Goosebumps series.
