Which Is The Most Important Element In A Well Structured Novel?

I emphatically say characterization. A character-driven work, like those found in the modern classics, shout that fact loud and clear.

Do you agree?

I think character interactions through dialogue for me. I have read a book though that had very little dialogue and I still loved it although.

Dialogue needs to sound natural for me to like a book a lot... making me laugh is also good. I think characters are key. Usually even if not much is happening in a book, if I care about the characters (if they seem real) then I can overlook some other stuff.

IMO, conflict is the most important, although it can also be termed suspense. Will the girl get the guy? Will the murderer get caught? The writer must give the reader enough mystery/interest to keep him/her reading.
