Haraki Murakami writes in such a way that I think he work can be identified by most people - despite is often Japanish settings - the narratives have somewhat universal messages.

I just recently read After Dark by Murakami and absolutely fell in love with it. I really need to pick up The Wind Up Bird Chronicles.
My favorite author, though, is J.M. Coetzee. When I was in graduate school for Literature I took a class that looked specifically on his works and it was really amazing.

Right now (and this could change) my favorite author is John Crowley.
His prose is almost poetry, and always sets such a wistful, mysterious mood that draws me in and then leaves me with a painless ache for more when I am done reading.
Might not be everybody's cup of tea, but I live for that feeling sometimes.

I love Lisa Jackson & Tami Hoag.
They get me so intrigued it's really hard to put the book down.
I really love them.
Right now I'm sticking with the same few authors, yet I will be expanding my variety soon.

Dean Koontz and Stephen King are probably my top two currently. (Duma Key saved King for me... and I've since then picked up a couple others, but we'll see how it goes).

I bought most of my copied online - The wind up bird chronical can be found on hitmesiter (although its a german site most books are in english - just cheaper than other sites), also i am currently reading the Wild Sheep Chase & Dance Dance Dance - which i got off amazon and comes as one bookso you kind of get 2 for 1!

i do not have a favorite author particularly, but i do like Dorothy Parker at the moment, her stories are full of with and light hearted and her sarcasm blows my mind away. i loved some of her poems, though dark and very macabre they are funny and witty she is just one of the many authors i like.
another one would include Joanne Harris, who wrote Chocolat (movie of the same name was based on it starring Johnny Depp) she pulls you into her stories and makes you one with her character, their emotions are overflowing from the book into your soul so you can actually feel everything that they feel.
there is also Alice Hoffman who wrote Practical Magic (movie of the same name based on this book starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman) her stories are magical and are still down to earth, Practical Magic also finds its foothold in every day lives and mistakes women make in love, my favorite of her books was Skylight Confessions, a sisters desperate attempt to pull a broken family back together and her brothers drug addiction and then later death, it was just a beautiful book that made you want to run up and hug the characters.

My favorite author is Homer Hickam. His Coalwood series and Josh Thurlow series are books you just can't put down. I teach his Rocket Boys in my English class. My kids think it's going to be boring and then they can't put it down. Then I hear from their parents who are also reading and loving it. An author who can do that is certainly worth checking out.

Currently I'm entranced with books by Philippa Gregory and Gregory Maguire. However, my all-time favorites are William Shakepeare, Stephen King and Edgar Allan Poe.

my favorite author is rick riordan i read his adult series a while back and found it amazing and if i remember correctly i even read his children books because the adult series was so good so its rick riordan p.s. who knows what the adult series is called?

I dont have any one favorite author.Right now I am reading Stephenie Meyer's books...
Twilight and New Moon were great reads.I also read her "The Host" which was in the adult section of my local library.Was a good book also.If you like vampire stories the Twilight series is good."The Host" was different....sort of a body snatcher type story but I liked it.

I thought about it for quite some time. I used to eagerlie await Patricia Cornwells novels but I probablydon't have to mention this feeling vanished with the past 5-6 published books.
One author I particulary like is John Saul. He has a sensible way to fathom certain topics, especially issues in youth. He wraps it and leaves a good story.
Cody Mcfadyen, very disturbing but I'd love to slip into his mind. I'm waiting for his third book.
Mo Hayder wrote a few good ones (Birdman,The Treatment), but I didn't like her last novel. Ritual is th beginning of a new series, The Walking Man but didn't keep up to her standard.
Otherwise I couldn't say I've got a favorite author. Time will tell.

George R. R. Martin -- he's never disappointed. He writes like a reader. He tells good stories with respect for his audience, and respect for his characters. I feel this way about David Mitchell too, and Ron Hansen.
Pat Barker and Margaret Laurence because of their sharp observational skills. You can tell that they've watched people, listened to them talk, and that they've thought deeply about why people behave the way they do. They can write books where "nothing happens" and I still get involved.
Emile Zola because he brings the 19th century to life.
