Is it worth trying to continue reading?

Absolutely. It's one of my favorite books of the last few years.

I'd say as long as you've found the first part entertaining, you owe it to yourself to continue. After the boat sinks.....that's when things really get interesting.

Bubbles, I thought the ending was fantastic, too. It really pulled everything together.

So, which story did you like better - the one with the animals or the other? Which was the truth?

I recently participated in another discussion of Life of Pi and most thought the animal story was better, but the other was probably the truth - at least in the literal sense.

Interesting to note that the insurance agents included the tiger in their report, despite their initial reaction to Pi's story.

Everytime I go to the zoo, I chuckle at the Meerkats. I love'm. The book was fantastic, I read it late last year and enjoyed it. The unfortunate part is that it was a borrowed book, so no trophy on the shelf for this read.

Life of Pi was truly delectable. Like any classic (or future classic ), it is enjoyable on many levels: it's a well written, entertaining book, that has enough action to keep you from getting bored; it broaches most interesting philosophical, psychological, and religious ideas; and it's one of those magical books that manages to leave even a skeptic with a warm and fuzzy feeling.

I had listened to an audiobook about a year ago. It was the one with Kerry Shale as the narrator. I liked the narration, he did different voices and accents for the characters.

I think this is the only book by Yann Martel that I have read. Anyone has any recommendations on any other books by him?

Life of Pi was quite an excellent book-it had a pleasant, humourous flow, but a plot enough to keep you rapt. I've heard that "Self" is another good Yann Martel book, but I haven't read it. Has anyone here?

I just love, love love it. It's on so many levels, totally original yet easy to read. Sadness, humour, adventure and excitement all wrapped together to tell a simple tale of humanity.

Definitely on my best book ever read list.

This was one of my favorite books of all time! Like others, i struggled through the first part but it after that , i could hardly put the book down. I am looking for other books similar to this and someone told me of a book that was almost exactly like Life of Pi, in fact they hinted to the fact that Martel got his "ideas" from this book, but i can't remember what it was. Anyway, great great book!

I loved this book, too. It's been a while since I read it, and a few days ago I was searching for it to give it another read....but I can't find it anywhere. I'll have to track down another copy, as I think I'd pick up alot more on the second time around (especially knowing how it ends).

This was a book I didn't expect to like. I mean, who wants to read about a boy and a tiger drifting around in the Pacific Ocean! Neverthess, it was great, and it all tied together. The first part, including the family occupation, did move a little slowly, but was an important setup for the rest of the book.

Did this book fall into the magic realism category?

Same here,it is a bit acrobatic at times but i liked it.That fact that the main caractere is an Indian boy with the name of a Parisian swiming pool i know was fun.
