I just stick a maximum bid on; the highest I'll go. But I only buy books and I don't go higher than I would have to pay in a shop. I've seen people bid pounds over the price for Bukowski and Fante; and these are recent prints that you can get in a shop.

That's why we're careful to shop other places too, so we can know the going rate. We usually put a maximum bid and stick to that. I'm also careful to be aware of shipping costs.
