  • Harry's DVD Picks & Peeks!

    My interests:
Get Smart (super cheap; my favorite show when I was little)
Starship Troopers (I know you just got the SE)
    The Counterfeiters
    BBC Natural History Collection
Krull - lol! Not for me... I remember Paul liking this. Yikes. Boy-movie.
I remember liking Dark City but not enough to buy it. Interesting plot with Blade Runner-esque visuals.

There's a review of Daddy, Darling on that mondo-digital sight I showed ya.

I saw Virgin Witch last year, I think this is it's second release on dvd, it's a lot of fun. Two sisters get invited to a weekend at this country mansion that is hosted by a bunch of black magic witches.

    My interests:
Dark City - not necessarily for Blu-Ray though, but I would like to watch this again. It's been 10 years, I don't even remember what is about. I remember when I did watch it, I was confused. I guess I was about 15 when it came out...
    Daddy, Darling
    Virgin Witch - kind of.

Comment: Harry's on DVDs? That's pretty cool.
You should definitely check it out when you get the chance.
Hulu - It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Full Episodes streaming online for free
It's not great, but it's pretty funny & definitely entertaining.

Wow. Chills. You've named the best moments in that film.
The whole film is just a fantastic piece of art. :sigh:
I dug Henry & June out of the Nero archives this weekend and watched it for the first time in 3 or 4 years. Some of my fave moments out of time:

    - Fred Ward is just great as Henry, with his over the top Brooklyn accent, it's as if he's portraying Henry as Nin saw him, the loud, gregarious New Yorker. I don't see anyone else playing him.

    - The scene in the lesbian bar, wow, really atmospheric, especially the part where the camera zooms in and Maria's and Uma's face fill the screen, June tells her she wants to drink her...just lovely.

    - One word...Brigitte. Her eyes are just incredible. I love that she's billed in the credits as 'Henry's Whore." I really like the scene at the bar, when she's giving Anais the eye, even as the guy comes to get her, she's still looking at her over his shoulder.

    - Henry and Anais under the bridge at sunrise..."I wanna vulgarize ya a little."

    - June disappearing into the fog towards the end.
    Re: The Celluloid Closet
    YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.
Sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out.
    Re: Watchmen
No, not yet. I've seen that it is available online. The player was messed up on one link, so I didn't get to see it. I think I'll just wait to see the trailer when Paul & I go see Dark Knight.
Ah, I know this one, never seen it though. I saw this documentary about homosexuality in film called The Celluloid Closet and they talked extensively about this one.

You checked out the Watchmen trailer yet?
Mädchen in Uniform - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    YouTube - Mädchen in Uniform - 1931 (1/9)
June whispers to Anais: You're the teacher and I'm the student.
That movie Mädchen in Uniform was featured in Henry & June... I saw that it was on YouTube... Thinking about checking it out.
I read on IMDb that the reason was just because Nin was looking at a picture of a woman + squid.

I'll probably watch it tonight. I'm excited.
Henry & June is great. Look for Brigitte! She's stunningly beautiful in this and you can't miss her. The NC-17 rating was invented for this movie and when you watch it now, you think, "what's the big deal? it's not that dirty!"
