I do agree with you that the past wasn't all it was cracked up to be. We now know that unprotected sex can result in pregnancy, physical and emotional problems. None of these things are good for a young woman. Instead of teaching women to wait until they're mature enough to make this decision...
Back in the "good 'ol days", women weren't able to study and get jobs. A woman's reason to be was to have babies and be a good wife, at least that's what they were taught all their life. In Western society today, women can do whatever they want and be anything they choose. So the question is why...
Try some Stephen King. I'm not a fan of his to be perfectly honest, but I respect him as a author.
It's OK to not finish a book you're not getting into. Bring it back to the library and grab books randomly off the shelf. If they description catches your interest, give it a try. If you like the...
I just turned 23 so I'm not far removed from teenage pressures. Granted, I grew up in the country and went to a good old Catholic school where teenage pregnancy happened, but it was very rare. In the city, I swear you're not cool if you're not pushing around a stroller by 17. You go to the mall...
Sorry to burst your bubble, but in my city it's very common for 15 and 16 year olds to be having sex, and they've already been at it for a couple years... I grew up in the country and it shocks me to hear the kids at work talking about personal experiences I wouldn't share with my best friend.
What has the world come to? It's so hard to believe that this is going on in today's day and age... especially in what we like to call "civilized" countries! We spend unfathomable amounts of money each year on science, technology, entertainment & war... and yet we do nothing to end the suffering...
You might want to try the Father Brown series by GK Chesterton.
Another good one is the Cadfael series by Ellis Peters. It's not set in the 1930s, but it's worth a read.
I don't have too many male friends outside my husband and his close friends, but all of them read. Of my female friends, only a small handful read, unless you count Cosmo magazines as literature (I do not).
My thoughts exactly. The BBC version might take you a while to watch, but it will give you a new appreciation for the novel.
It's a tradition that anytime I'm under the weather I curl up on the couch with a hot bowl of soup and watch the film from start to finish.
I also enjoyed these...
If I had the money, I'd love to buy a few feet of their books just to see what treasures I find!
I love displaying beautiful leather-bound books, but I strongly believe that books should be read, not just looked at!
You deserve a hug! But I agree, $13.5/hr is pretty good! Mind you I'm from Canada and the cost of living is different than in the states... Just focus of the paycheque and keep a detailed journal. It'll make a great exposé some day! :)
