I bought a couple rare books a few years back from Abebooks and they never arrived. Interestingly, a new used book store opened up a few blocks from my house a couple months later and I found a copy of both books there.
Coincidence?
My earliest book memory is this children's book about a couple animals who buy candy from a shop run by a bee. I remember the pictures looked good enough to eat!
My earliest non-book related memory is my grandma taking me for a walk to the mall in Toronto. I was just old enough that I could...
I'm looking forward to that too. But I also love how the leaves change colours and the days get shorter. I love stargazing so the longer nights in the winter make me very happy!
Sounds like a fun party!
Interesting link Beer Good. Amazing how many there were just before 2000! I can't wait to see if this year's prophecy works out!
I used to have a couple favourite bookmarks but my dog ate them. She also likes to nibble on any book I'm in the middle of reading, so now I just use anything on hand to keep my place... hair elastic, utilities bill, shopping list, etc... If book and bookmark survive unscathed I consider myself...
I second Sphere. Actually, all of Michael Crichton's books have left me feeling this way. He's an incredible storyteller, but it seems that his ideas get so big that he doesn't know what to do with them in the end.
The review is actually much more positive than I expected. I saw an ad for the book the other day, but I passed by it. I just hate it when someone comes along and makes a mess out of a great book or series.
Note to all aspiring authors: do some brainstorming and come up with your own story...
I was just thinking about this the other day. My parents used to read to me as a child, and now that we're expecting our first one, I'm planning on doing the same. I think it's such a great way to strengthen family relationships and foster a love for reading in the child. I know so many people...
Mark Twain is definitely a good read. If you're looking for a good adventure, I recommend:
-Anything by Jules Verne (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Journey to the Earth, Around the World in 80 Days, etc...)
-Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift
-The Lost World by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
-Treasure...
You're right, of course. Change and financial uncertainty is intimidating. But ultimately I think it's something you need to get past in order to make a positive change for your future.
I run a restaurant. My advice to you is the same advice I give to everyone: If you don't like your job, leave. You spend so much of your life working... if you don't enjoy it, don't waste your time there.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
I saw it yesterday and really enjoyed it! It was definitely not what I expected. The guy who played McCoy sounded just like DeForest Kelly, it was uncanny!
I wasn't particularly worried about it until I heard that one of my regular customers has it. I woke up yesterday with a tickle in my throat! I spent the whole day drinking hot tea with echinacea and lots of Vitamin C. I'm happy to report I feel healthy as a horse today!
I agree with you. Posting anything work related online is asking for trouble, and you deserve what you get. But it's definitely a breach of privacy to go through private communiques like that!
That's why I always tell people to be careful what they put in writing. You can't be too careful!
