    Why read books?

I checked all of the boxes because I read for all those reasons and more. I read because reading is a part of me. My soul is wrapped up in books. I read for the warm glow the experience of a really good book will give me. It's hard to express in words... I tell people I read for enjoyment...

    glass in her hamburger

That sounds like something I read when I was a teenager or tween.... maybe something by Christopher Pike? Not any of the Remember Me books, or The Season of Passage (which was my favorite). Maybe Bury Me Deep?

    Underworld - Don DeLillo

    Question Game

Nope, just my fiance's computer game (Oblivion I think it's called). Do you have a special place to put your keys when you get home so you can find them again easily?

Azar Nafisi: Reading Lolita in Tehran

I too thought this book was amazing, and it affected me deeply. One thing I will say is that it helps to read Nabokov, Steinbeck, Miller, and the other authors/works before reading this book, because you will appreciate it more fully that way.

A book about a woman who marries a doctor but loves an artist named Nick

That actually sounds a bit like Madame Bovary by Flaubert.

    Books for New Orleans Library

Hi everyone, I thought I'd post this here so if you feel like cleaning out your personal library you have a good cause to contribute to: New Orleans Public Library is asking for any and all hardcover and paperback books to restock the shelves after Katrina. The library staff will assess...

Looking for a good novel with certain criteria...

Try Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. It's a long book and it's also the first in a series. It's adventure and romance in 17th century Scotland.

    Question Game

If it's ok I will respond instead of Still... It would probably have to be something like A Child Called It because that subject matter is something I just can't handle. What is just outside your window?

    Dreamers, idealists in literature

Jude in Jude the Obscure is a pretty good (though tragic) example. Also Pip in Great Expectations, the title character in Eva Luna, and Dagny Taggart in Atlas Shrugged. Moving away from Literature, you've also got Prior Philip in The Pillars of the Earth and Peekay in The Power of One.

How to keep a book looks like new forever.

In library school they told us that the best way to preserve books is to keep them at cool temperatures, about 50 degrees Fahrenheit, and to keep them away from natural light - in fact, the darker the better. Make sure they're printed on acid-free paper. Keep them away from mold, insects, and...

    Favorite Clever Song Lyrics

"And if I die today I’ll be the happy phantom And I’ll go chasin’ the nuns out in the yard And I’ll run naked through the streets without my mask on And I will never need umbrellas in the rain I’ll wake up in strawberry fields every day And the atrocities of school I can forgive The happy...

Where to start with Stephen King?

Try 'Salem's Lot. It's one of his first few and pretty emblematic of the kind of writing he does. It's about vampires. I remember enjoying it :)

Here's a similar topic to favorite book quotes: Anyone have some favorite song lyrics they'd like to share? They could be poetic, funny, observant, clever... whatever makes them stand out to you. Some of my favorites are: "How about the power to kill a yak from 200 yards away... With...
