Anyone else get motion sick when reading in car?

If I start reading my kindle in the car i get nauseas in a minute or two. So bad I have to stop reading. Does this happen to a lot of people? Any remedies to suggest? I am in a car for an hour a day and would love to be reading instead of looking at traffic
 
Try the motion sickness bands. They put pressure on the acupressure points in your wrists. I believe they are pretty effective.

Unfortunately if you suffer from motion sickness reading often brings it on or makes it worse because it increases the conflict in signals to your brain which is what causes it.

Some people suggest the lifting the book up helps rather than reading with it in your lap.
 
Reading in the car isn't a good idea. Something about your eyes are always being pulled to the side to what's passing by the car. Everyone I know who has read in the car has gotten car sick from it. Audio books are a good alternative.
 
I can read without any trouble on a train or aeroplane, but I do get sick as a dog if I try to read in the car or on longer bus rides. I really really hate that ... but I guess I ought to be glad that I can take longer car journeys without throwing up at all. When I was a kid, I used to get motion sickness on any trip that lasted more than a few minutes.
 
I have the same problem...I tried taking Dramamine for it, but it was...well, it didn't help. :-/ The iPad isn't any better, I can go on it for short times to look up, say, a hotel for the night, but if I spend more than a few moments...

As a child, I too, became carsick if a car trip took longer than about 30 minutes. It made trips to Nana & Grandpa's home a real problem as they lived 2.5 hours away.

I used to get carsick when reading in a car for even a 10 minute trip. Since I bought my Nook, I am able to read in the car. I keep the screen pretty bright and find I sometimes hold the book about chest level - that helps a lot.
 
No. Reading in the car makes me really sick. Not to mention hazardous, since I'm usually driving at the same time.

So I resort to audiobooks! :)
 
Ah, just put the kindle above the steering wheel as you drive, easy solution.


Just kidding!-I don't get sick at all as a passenger-reader. :D
 
SFG, c'mon man, a kindle will block the view of the road! That's too big and it's dangerous! It's better to read on your mobile while driving. You'll have to squint a little and look away from the road, but you'll be better served with a larger viewing angle when you look up and have to make emergency swerves to avoid cows, ditches and pedestrians and the odd-oncoming car.
 
I used to get it but now it is better and I can read for quite a while before I have to put my book/e-reader down. I just focus on the book and don't look around or up and down. When you do then that gets the motion sickness going. I also stop reading the vehicle is going around a curve(s). If I do look up or around I give myself a chance to focus on something and that balances me and then I can go back to reading.

Only if I keep a charger plugged into the lighter. My phone drains down in 15 minutes if I attempt to access the internet(not really, but it feels like it) My insurance will cover the damage from striking into cattle. Perhaps I could lawyer up and file damages for "emotional pain" and "suffering" that occurred as I lost my space when I was reading on my phone.

I do if I am sitting in the back seat. So I don't read if I am sitting in the back seat. This is really unfortunate because it means that I cannot do any kind of meaningful work while being driven from the airport to the office and from the office home. Tinting the rear windows didn't help and neither did getting another driver.
