Third Man Girl:

Why are people from Ohio are called Buckeyes?

There are 2 theories going round.
  • It is related that two of the pioneers, on springing to the shore, at once began a contest to see who should inaugurate the land by felling the first tree. One selected a hardwood tree and his work was consequently difficult. The other applied his axe to a buckeye tree and laid it low before his rival made much progress with his work.
  • Another tradition, better authenticated, is to the effect that Colonel
EbenezerSproat, a man of large physical means was called by the Indians
"Hetuck" or Big Buckeye and from this the name was made to apply to all the colonists.

Why is everyone so afraid of death?

Because everybody is afraid of the unknown. Oh, and I also think it has something to do with not being alive anymore.

Is it not possible that this life is just a form of purgatory we all have to endure before we are ready to face the paradise in the next world, and thus the people who die young are on the right track?

Yes, that is a possibility. But what if it turns out not to be true?

Idun:

Where, on a fresco "The Last Judgement" in the Sistine Chapel, is portrayed Michelangelo himself?

On "The Last Judgement", all of the saints can be identified surrounding Jesus: St. Andrew with the cross, St. Bartholomew with his skin, St. Lawrence with the gridiron, St. Sebastian with arrows, San Biagion with combs of iron, St. Catherine with a wheel.
St Bartholomew's flayed skin has been suggested to have the face of Michelangelo himself.

How many elderly people does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

None. The elderly gave up on screwing a long time ago, even in lightbulbs.

Dear Martin,

Please could you tell us about the recent 'Grey Album' and could you enlighten us as to why it's shunned by the music industry

Is the Grey Album destined to become a bootleg? Can you name some good rock bootleg albums are (rumoured) to exist?

Dear Martin, why don't you ask the group to collectively answer one of YOUR questions?

RaVeN

Quite, quite wrong Whitefeather. I am neither blonde, brunette, redheaded or RaVeN-tressed. I am in equine-speak, bay. (darkish-brownish and hopeless at describing colours).

The Grey Album:

GreyAlbum.jpg

The Grey Album is an art project/experiment that uses the full vocal content of Jay-Z's Black Album recorded over new beats and production made using the Beatles White Album as the sole source material. Danger Mouse insists he can explain and prove that all the music on the Grey Album can be traced back to the White Album and its musical content via sampling. Every kick, snare, and chord is taken from the Beatles White Album and is in their original recording somewhere.
Danger Mouse sent about 3,000 promo copies out, and was soon served with a cease-and-desist notice from EMI, who owns the rights to the White Album master. Danger Mouse complied with EMI's order, but Stay Free! (sponsors of the Illegal Art Exhibit) and other fans and activists continued distributing the record over the Internet.

Is the Grey Album destined to become a bootleg?

Yes, it already is. On february 23 there was a so-called 'Grey Tuesday', during which approximately 170 sites hosted a full copy of the Grey Album, in spite of the fact that many of those sites had received cease and desist letters from EMI's lawyers. After a survey of the sites that hosted files during Grey Tuesday, and an analysis of filesharing activity on that day, we can confidently report that the Grey Album was the number one album in the US on February 24 by a large margin. Danger Mouse moved more "units" than Norah Jones and Kanye West, with well over 100,000 copies downloaded. That's more than 1 million digital tracks.

Can you name some good rock bootleg albums are (rumoured) to exist?

There's The Double Black Album. This album's similar to the Dangermouse album except it's using samples from Metallica's Black Album.

Then there's The Black Album: Unplugged, which mixes The Black Album (Jay-Z) with Nirvana's performance in 1993 from MTV Unplugged.

Dear Martin, why don't you ask the group to collectively answer one of YOUR questions?

I already know everything.

Questions inspired by the "Shakespeare Country" recipe book my mom got me:

1) How much butter is a "walnut" of butter? Is that a small walnut or a large one?
2) What is double cream? Is it similar to clotted cream?
3) What is caster sugar?
4) What is a damson?
5) How many pheasants are in a brace?
6) What is a bouquet garni?
7) What is demerara sugar?
8) What is golden syrup?
9) Where would someone acquire elderflower heads?

I am actually an adequate cook, but this is an entirely different language.

Don't you get double cream or golden syrup over there? They're quite common in supermarkets over here

You'd better get your mum to come back over here with a shopping list ;)

Next question:

Name the top 20 best selling albums of all time please

By general consensus who are the best guitarists and drummers of all time?

For cream, we got light whipping cream, and heavy whipping cream. I can get clotted cream, but it costs like sin and it's difficult. The import grocery had many, many odd things in cans, can't remember is any of them were double cream. Golden syrup sounds like it's probably similar to our Karo's syrup (light corn syrup), but just guessing.

For guitarists, my vote goes to Eric Clapton, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Jeff Beck. Also, Willie Nelson was kickass, much more into the guitar stuff in his live show.
