Novella . . . The sick thing is, deep down you seem to agree with me on most of the underlying factors I bring up.

Which 'underlying factors' would they be? You may think that calling other people stupid and writing, reading, and discussing literature are the same thing, but I do not. You specialize in the former, and I in the latter.

Call ‘em as I see ‘em. No matter what the subject.
Not that I’ve ever called anyone “stupid”.
I don’t make this stuff up or need to name call; the evidence is all right in front of us.

And don’t act like you haven’t gone into little complaints that could be deemed as “insulting” (or whatever) towards vacant-type posting and juvenile thoughts...

Interesting that you “specialize” (!!) in discussing (!!) “writing, reading and literature” (!!) though!!!
[sorry for excising the dreaded ‘serial comma’.]

Well, carry on then.
I must be *seriously* missing all this profound, yet specialized, Novella discourse.
I’ll look further.
Or not.

(am I on Candid Camera? Punk’d? Twilight Zone?),

Let's leave aside the fact that you misquote me.

Golly, jay, I am a professional writer and have been for a long time, so, yeah, I guess that's a specialization. Part of that job is reading a lot and discussing writing and reading. Just part of the deal. Sorry if you think that's odd.

The quotes are fine. [and *you* should talk in this department??]
“Insulting” wasn’t attributed to you.

I’m sincerely sorry, my dear Novella, I was under the impression you were talking about this here Book Forum.
Hell, you may be a great cook, but that aint really important _here_ now, is it.
[no need for a question mark]

While this *is* just a silly web forum, I _would_ really expect a lot better from someone that has now repeatedly flaunted their career to us. As if we’re impressed.
We *all* probably work with a supposed ‘specialist’…but even they probably know “gifting” is a proper verb.

Just-let-it-go.

But you quote me as saying I 'discuss reading, writing and literature' when in fact I said I 'write, read, and discuss literature.' That's a misquote, isn't it?

Haw haw. I'm not flaunting anything. You apparently required qualification, and I provided it.

No, Miss Editor / “professional writer for a very long time”. My “discussing” was not in quotes.
But yes, I made a slip of linguistic order. My apologies.
Although this mystifies me a bit more as in this context you are, apparently, specialist in “writing”.
Hmm.

Haw haw. I'm not flaunting anything. You apparently required qualification, and I provided it.

As I said, not many would actually find this successful flaunting nor does it fulfill _any_ qualifications.
The *only* thing that matter is what you lay down *here* [the Book Forum].

As is documented history, I’ve worked circles around you, in your language, grammatically, in spelling, various definitions and logic. Several times.

And I *really* don’t care (nor do others), but when you keep getting up (this is all very “Cool Hand Luke”) and then, again, fall down -with a sinister smirk no less (so to speak)- one _really_ is left with befuddlement…

I’m all up for a debate of any kind (on books, reading, literature. I have no interest in debating politics or whatnot here – the thought alone is frightening).
My previous ping-pong matches with Monkey Catcher (who I believe is about ½ your age) showed some spunk and interesting thinking. I truly hope that she continues (not that I have any doubt that she wont) to rally against what she doesn’t believe in, calls people on their empty and/or thought out “opinions”, and fights mediocrity, well, better than I have.

-Novella, you may be great at your job, and I _sincerely_ hope you are. I have no doubts that you aren’t an intelligent woman. And I *completely* understand the occasional flub; to me emails and quick posts are a bit like messy Post-It notes. And I’m pretty sure you, like myself and others, slap down our posts while at work.

Although I do think posting continually mistakes is 1) telling and 2) disrespectful to any potential reader. Although I never point this out to people, but seemingly call them “stupid”. As I said, no need.

Your nit-picking (very often wrong -so much for “qualification”), when _one_ of my posts surpasses in not just thought and content, but obviously (not that this is a good trait) word-count, to the total of many a members’ week (or weak) accumulation, is tiresome. [and yes, that’s a horrible sentence but I really got to get some work done]

You or your company wants to cut me a check, as I stated before (this thread, I believe), I’ll make sure things are as close to ‘perfect’ as can be.
Until then, if you’re gonna edit me, edit me *correctly* and also find the post where you seem to think I ever proclaimed I make no mistakes.

This is all *so* terribly pathetic that it’s turned into some, again, “Cool Hand Luke” fight out in the yard. And usually, in only slightly serious way, I feel in-line with the Luke role (an extravagant failure), so this is an interesting role-reversal.

But apparently you like the attention.

I’ll be jumping off the list soon, so you can go back to whatever it was you were doing before peeking in on whatever I’m posting and those with no idea how to back up their own thoughts can stop, supposedly, shuddering in the corner waiting for the boogie man to leave.

But I still would never attempt to eat 50 eggs,

Oh, not that anyone actually cares about conversation but I’d probably say that _The Maltese Falcon_ (1941) has surpassed (in popularity) Hammett’s novel.
Uniquely, since, if memory serves, this was the third time it was adapted, but of course was the directorial début of Mister John Huston and the movie that put Bogart into the Big Time. Indeed a classic.

But thankfully the books are still around and somewhat widely followed.

on behalf of all the haterz, I indight jay's un-suggestion that novella use proper grammar. the idea that mistakes (constituted as such) are evil is precisely the logic of the holocaust and the bombing of dresden. grammar is a set of norms that attempt to create perfection, kind of like the nazis attempt to create a perfect human being. jay is a nazi dickfor who deserves to be punched in the nutsack. I will not stand for this grammar shit. no one even uses it anymore. fascist.

Well, you may actually wish to read some of the thread and note that Novella, whom you are simply embarrassing with your dribbling, claims to be somewhat of a specialist in the area and has therefore gone on to ‘correct’ my mistakes.

So please, bubby, my history skewing, uniformed reader, know what you are a “haterz” of.

jay is a nazi dickfor who deserves to be punched in the nutsack.

I’ll buy you a flight over if you’d like…

I will not stand for this grammar shit. no one even uses it anymore. fascist.

Please. Go play on another thread.

this is because you fail to live up to your own ideals. by correcting YOUR mistakes within YOUR oppressive framework, novella merely exposes your propensity toward evil. we reject your framework on the grounds that it is an attempt to get people to talk the "right way". the nazis wanted everyone to look the "perfect, ideal way". does this not sound familiar? you still have not given us one reason why grammar is at all good. game over. idiot.

353 (and counting) of them, actually.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd why are using it (for the most point)?

Mister ‘I don’t like rules’, here’s a way your post should be if you don’t like the “Nazi” constriction of “grammar’:

Which makes about as much sense, but has a less syndrome of a crying-child-with-a-skinned-knee.

Sorry, life has rules. Red means stop, etc.
But don’t worry, soon schooling will be over and mommy wont paddle your ass and force you to sit in the corner all day and night because you got a bad report card...

game over. idiot.

You’re not even playing the same sport, son.
And please, you aint nothing compared to Novella, so I’d refrain from the “we” stuff.

Burn boy, I mean you no harm; you don’t talk about books (on a book forum).
Go play in the general play-pen area. Go private message your lil’ buddies. Create a poll and bump me out.

Until then…I yawn.

would grammar make sense if the sun exploded? no. you have not met the vacuum test standard. your argument is void. so quit yappin about dumbshit and reorient your ethics.

Sorry.

Well, at least we’re back on topic…

I see that ole P.I.A. known as Jay is screwing up another thread.

How? Jay's been in this conversation from the beginning.

If you think he's a pain in the arse then tell him. Don't hide behind little acronyms that you don't aim directly.

anyone else and that would have been their first response. you're a sharp one, aren't ya?

Ohhhhh, I had a feeling, son.
But, you know, I don’t make dizzy assumptions, and, you know, one has to post *something* on books, you know, on a Book Forum, for one to get a feel for what someone reads.

Ahhhhh, Muggles, had to take a peek at what else I was posted, eh?

Thanks again for contributing on-topic.
(Don’t cut yer finger on the Stephen King)

If “books and intelligence” just turns into “idiots unite”…well, indeed, this is telling too.

again baffled at those just posting without reading the content of the thread…
