I have an evergrowing stack of books that I haven't read or have partially read. And it only gets worse every time I go to the used bookstore.

My list:

Iliad
Odyssey
Confederacy of Dunces (read half)
Fast Food Nation (read half)
Ghost Wars
Secret Agent - Conrad
The Holographic Universe
Notes From the Underground - Dostoevsky
Brave New World
Art of War
The Prince - Machiavelli (read half)
Walden (read about 1/3)
Leaves of Grass
A People's History of the United States (read parts sporatically)
Lies My Teacher Told Me (read parts sporatically)
Koran
Bible (finished the New Testament, still working on the Old Testament)
1984 (currently reading and almost finished)

And the sad thing is I know there's more that I haven't listed and I'm about to buy Crime and Punishment. haha

Yeh I do that too ... I have a tendency to buy books that look nice, sound nice or that I have just heard of :)

I have:

Courtesans by Katie Hickman
Marie Antoinette by Antonia Fraser (it's so long!)
The Woman In Black by Susan Hill
The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien

And all of the Harry Potter books which I despise but need to read if I ever want a civilised conversation with any of JK.Rowlings' lunatic fans :D (waits for bashing)

Kabale und Liebe - Friedrich Schiller

what is this book from Bukowski about, it sounds a kind of cool,

and by the way, what the hell do you want with Kabale und Liebe??
i had to read it for school, it was not the worst, but definetly not good either, it is boring and senseless, just because there are differneces in class means not that every person who appears in the book has to screw up soo badly!!

April Witch- Majgull Axelsson
angels- Marian Keyes
Cross your heart and hope to die- Nancy Martin

I reorganized my books yesterday for "fun". It ended up being a replacement for the gym, up and down the stairs with huge stacks. I realized I have about 60 trade paperbacks, 200 mass markets and 50 hard covers that I own and have not read in their entirety. I put them all on two bookshelves and am in the process of sorting them by "order to be read". It doesn't mean I won't continue to buy new books, but I'll read these ones in between.

My next up shelf contains:
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
House by Tracy Kidder
The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
Love in a Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Nectar in a Sieve by Kamala Markandaya
If on a Winter's night a Traveler by Italo Calvino
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neala Hurston
Barrell Fever by David Sedaris
A Million Little Pieces by James Frey

I have two books on order that will go in there too when they come in:
A Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon

Kafka on the Shore - Haruki Murakami
Cloud Atlas - David Mitchell
Riotous Assembly - Tom Sharpe
Shopping for God - Roland Howard
Stonehenge - Bernard Cornwall
Curious incident.... - Mark Haddon

Going out today to buy a few more.

I dont want to do this. Makes me sad :(

Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance - Robert Prisig
Atlas Shrugged - Ayn Rand
The Code Book - Simon Singh
Godel Escher Bach - Douglas Hofstadter ( I am going to start reading this soon)
Sense and sensibility - Jane Austen
Emma - Jane Austen
Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus - John Gray
Catch22 -Joseph Heller
Lajja - Taslima Nasreen
Indian Classical dance - Shovana Narayan
and many more which I dont remember right now.....

Last Chance to See - Douglas Adams and Mark Carwardine
That reminds me, I gotta go out and buy that one (if I can bloody find it).

My list:
  • The Blind Watchmaker - Richard Dawkins
  • The Selfish Gene - Richard Dawkins
  • Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrel - Susanna Clark
  • Infinite Jest - David Foster Wallace
  • The Double - Jose Saramago
  • Lost In A Good Book - Jasper Fforde

  • The DaVinci Code - Dan Brown
  • Snow Crash - Neal Stephenson
  • Quicksilver - Neal Stephenson
  • The Confusion - Neal Stephenson
  • The System Of The World - Neal Stephenson
And that's all she wrote.

Cheers

Lending

Yes, I have quite a few, but the problem is that, not only I didn't read them, I also lent them to some of my friends WITHOUT reading them. And I'm not so happy about that now, at least I made a list, not to lose track of them. ( they include David Lodge, Ian McEwan , Murakami, etc. )
By the way, what do you do when you lend books?Do you make a list or lose some books as it happened in my case?
I have a friend who put a little poster in her bookcase stating: I DON'T LEND BOOKS. A bit selfish, but safer, what about you?

I used to lend out books but I don't any longer. Too many people mistreat my books or just don't get them back to me!

I have 51 books in my pile. And no, I'm not gonna type all those out

Wabbit, if you look at my How Big Is Yours? ;) thread here, you will see that your 51 books and my 50 very much makes us the amateurs! :D

I don't lend books because I would never get them back.

Also on my own but unread list:

Satanic Verses - Rushdie
The Beach - Alex Garland
Puzzle Palace
Holy Blood, Holy Grail
Bloodline of the Holy Grail
