Boston Marathon attack

Federal authorities on Monday charged the surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings with using a “weapon of mass destruction” against people and property, and the White House rejected demands by some congressional Republicans that he be tried before a military tribunal as an “enemy combatant.”

As long as they don't try to make me register my pressure canner as a weapon...

Our local high school has already banned backpacks in classrooms, claiming they create a danger during a fire drill....o_O

Sounds about right. Nothing like a little overkill. I know cell phones were banned in many schools until 9/11.

Same reasoning was used in our school systems. Then we had 9/11, the Lisk sisters and the DC sniper and someone decided that the kids needed their phones, even if it meant having to turn them off during school hours.

They all carry their phones; they just are confiscated if students are caught using them during the school day.

Is it a full auto canner , does it have a " shoulderthingthatgoesup" , does it accept the high capacity thirty quart magazines , does it have a " grip" , is it threaded for a flash hider or muzzle brake?
 
Many years ago, certainly pre 9/11, the local schools banned all but clear plastic backpacks. At the time the reason was that some "children" (oy) were bringing weapons to school. The clear plastic was supposed to be a deterrent.
 
Can you see getting to the point of being fined for leaving a backpack unattended in a public place?
 
Actually, I don't know (any innocent) why anyone would leave a backpack, purse, etc unattended anywhere. Have they heard of thieves? Sheesh. But, I suppose there are naive ones everywhere.

As I understand it, a weapon of mass destruction is any weapon that can kill or injure a lot of people or damage a lot of property. Those little bombs managed all of that.

I'm sure it happens all the time. College campuses for instance. A student drops a pack and goes to get a cold drink or a snack. People in the park leave a pack sitting somewhere when they go to get something from a vender or when they're participating in an activity.

he is however being charged with using a 'weapon of mass destruction' so that they can circumvent Massachusetts law which does not have the death penalty and try him in federal court on charges that do carry the death penalty. A decision which in my opinion is based on an emotional need for revenge rather than clear headed evaluation of the law. The need for revenge has no place in the law!
 
Sweetpeas the writing is on the wall already ... soon it won't be legal to use the internet under a pseudonym (you REALLY think Google etc care who you are?), gather to protest anything, etc etc ... everything you do is already logged by some one somewhere so the rest is just a matter of time. Don't people learn ANYTHING from the lessons of history?

And WILL there be reform in the education system to ensure people know how to spell as a result? Why not mass hysteria about that instead of backpacks, and racial/religious whatevers? It is a far bigger crisis!
