Chuck Palahniuk

I started Snuff today. The Shakespearean porn titles made me lol. Despite some groos parts I'm enjoying it much more than Rant.

My first post!

Hello all, my name is Rev. Sorry for the wall of text.

I am a new reader to Chuck Palahniuk and I am so glad I found these forums. I usually only post on video game forums, but I figured I would try going online to chat with others about books, being that none of my friends read that much (a shame, I know).

Anywho... the only way I can "read" is when I'm on my hour commute to and from work, so I'm limited to what my library has on audio CD. A few weeks ago I figured I would give "Fight Club" a shot and I am so glad I did. It is amazing how well the movie came out compared to the book. I would like to discuss my opinions further on that but I guess I should look for a thread for Fight Club discussion (if there is one on these boards).

At the end of the Fight Club audio they recommended "Rant" , and low and behold my library actually had that on CD, so I have been listening to that. I should be finishing it up today on the way home, and I must say he has a strange way of writing, though I do enjoy it. To anyone who didn't like "Rant", I recommend trying to listen to the audiobooks version, as they have a different speaker for every character. I really don't think I would actually be able to "read" it with the constant speaker changes. It was annoying at first but once I got used to the arrangement it is a pretty good read (listen).

Well, back to work for me. Take care, hope to chat soon! Rev

Just found out Palahniuk will have a new book in May of this year and two more are done, but, as of yet, have no release date I could find. Of his novels that I've read I rate them this way.

Fight Club - 5/5
Survivor - 4/4
Choke - 5/5
Lullaby - 2/5
Haunted - 3/5
Rant - 2/5

I have read more Chuck Palahniuk books than any other author with the exception of Stephen King. The strange thing is that I was totally amazed by Fight Club but have been disappointed by pretty much everything else since and yet I still read his stuff (for example, just put "Lullaby" on hold at my local library following Sparkchaser's comment). Here's how I'd rate the ones I've read:

Fight Club 5/5
Survivor 3/5
Choke 3/5
Diary 2/5
Rant 2/5
Pygmy 1/5
Snuff 3/5
Fugitives and Refugees: A Walk in Portland, Oregon 3/5

Fingers crossed for Lullaby...

I read Survivor, Choke, Lullaby, Invisible Monsters and Fight Club a long time ago (5 or 4 years maybe?) and pretty much one after the other though not in that order. I liked them all but from what I remember, Fight Club was the one I enjoyed the least (no, I haven't seen the film).
I recently read Diary, Rant and Snuff and realized how much I had missed the guy. I thought Diary was fantastic, but there were a few moments when I thought he was channeling Stephen King (no disrespect to either writer, the're both among my faves). Rant was a bit of a struggle at some point because of the structure of the book but I was still able to enjoy the ride. And Snuff, well, what can I say :D I liked it but it's definitely not for everybody. But then that's the case with pretty much all of his books...

2 may have been harsh but I certainly liked it less than any of his first few books. And take those ratings as how I remember feeling about those books and that I don't always remember well. I still haven't read Invisible Monsters (don't know why), Diary, Snuff or Pygmy. I've got the last one though and will get the first eventually.

I know this an old thread, but I still want to comment. I love his books. I have read all of his books with the exception of Damned. I think his writing style is so different and to be honest, twisted. I love it for that :)
