I just finished a couple of books. I read The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler. This is the first book I've read by her. I enjoyed the book, mainly because I love Jane Austen, and it was fun to see one liners and read how much the characters in this book loved her work and defended her books. The book was more of a character study than a story. It deals with 6 members of the book club, and she basically does a once a month delve into their lives.
I'm curious to hear what anyone else has thought of this book.

In a completely different genre was Shadowmarch by Tad Williams. It's the first of a trilogy. I really liked the book. It's a fantasy novel, which I've really not read with the exception of Tolkien. The characters were great, especially the princess, Briony. I enjoyed reading her as she progressed and changed with the events surrounding her. It's fun to see a strong female character. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Alright! I'm sorry, I was having trouble picking out a book and it's neither of the ones listed above.

I am now reading The Halo Trilogy. It includes Halo: The Fall of Reach, Halo: The Flood, and finally Halo: First Strike.

As many of you may know, it's also a very popular video game on Xbox. One of my personal faves. :) Oh and Happy Thanksgiving All!!!!!!!

I've heard of those Halo books. Very interesting! I've been wondering if books from a video game be any good? Do you think they are?

Yes, Michigan the Halo books are quite enjoyable. So far, it's very interesting and action-packed!

Yeah, I think video-game-based books can be very enjoyable. I'm not sure if you've heard about this game or not but StarCraft is on my TBR list.

Happy Thanksgiving! :)

About halfway through A Redbird Christmas by Fannie Flagg. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Nothing stressful, just a sweet & pleasant read. I love the way she writes, and find Flagg's books to be calming and fun.

I'm actually reading Great Expectations, but I find myself reading other books in addition to it, therefore I think this book will be my currently reading book for quite a time...

Just started The Seventh Scroll by Wilbur Smith. I haven't read anything by him before, but it was the book that looked most appealing on my roommates shelves.

Hay

For the first time ever I am reading three books at the same time! Normally I like to concentrate on just one!

This is the main book. it's great book at the called The Encyclopedia of Snow By Sarah Emily Milano

This is an AMAZING book. It's totally original in form. The structure of the book is in the form of entries from A to Z and every entry related to snow, ice or winter. The entries can be tiny stories, or news clippings, or diary extracts or scientific definitions, and so on.

Like snow, swirling and spinning, each beautiful mote is separate but each exist as a beautiful whole.

The other book that I am reading in one of my coffee breaks at work is Romeo & Juliet By William Shakespeare! I won't bother telling you what it's about as I am sure everybody must know! If not, why the hell not???

The writing is different from the other works of his that I have read. As always the use of language just blows me away. He weaves words with such bright beauty and wonderful meaning and intent. The story is dramatic and the characters out standing. Genius! :)

Lastly, I am listening to an audio book at work of Dune by Frank Herbert! Sure most people know this one too :)

Finding it ok at the moment. There are two things that irritate me about the book though. Firstly, I WISH he wouldn't feel the need to interrupt dialogue every few lines to clumsily tell me what any given character is thinking about. STOP! :-D

Secondly, but less irritating, it's a bit preachy. The author feels the need to spout "wisdom" at the reader constantly. I prefer books that contain wisdom in them to be extracted by the reader and not one where you are told what to think. The wisdom is both irritating and umm not very wise :p

I am enjoying the book - so far. It's good and it's keeping me interested. Can't see why it's such a classic though. For me, it's just average :)

I've just started reading The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud tonight. It's very good so far. :)

I just started Watership Down by Richard Adams. It is good, but a little off beat. It is about a bunch of rabbits, personified.

Definitely! I read that book as a child and vowed never to read it again, I was that upset! I have actually read it once more, a long time ago.

I know!!!!! :-(

They did another animated movie with dogs instead of rabbits. That one was really dark and sad too. I can't remember the name or much of the plot at the moment.

I hope Cajunmamma isn't depressed. If she's not, she will be by the time she finishes that book :-D lol

I'm not depressed...yet. Maybe I'm not far enough into the book to get to the rough parts. I am at the place where they have just gotten to Watership Down and something creepy is outside their little hiding place. I never saw the animated version. Or if I did, it was so long ago that I don't remember. And I love a good cry, now and then. The Secret Life of Bees had me bawling like a baby, but I still consider it a great book.
