Watership Down

I'm not depressed...yet. Maybe I'm not far enough into the book to get to the rough parts
I didn't think it was really depressing -- more like bittersweet. But you'll still need those tissues. I truly loved this book and after awhile I even forgot they were rabbits.

They did another animated movie with dogs instead of rabbits. That one was really dark and sad too. I can't remember the name or much of the plot at the moment.

I have not seen the film or read the book, but I understand that was The Plague Dogs by the same author. I think it was about some animals that escaped from a research laboratory. Sounds happy. ;)

I was reading House of Leaves but it started to drag a little (I'll get back to it). I'm currently reading The Taking by Dean Koontz. So far, so good. :D

I read about 2/4 of it in H.S. I couldn't finish it. Too depressing.

Lastly, I am listening to an audio book at work of Dune by Frank Herbert! Sure most people know this one too :)

Finding it ok at the moment. There are two things that irritate me about the book though. Firstly, I WISH he wouldn't feel the need to interrupt dialogue every few lines to clumsily tell me what any given character is thinking about. STOP! :-D

Secondly, but less irritating, it's a bit preachy. The author feels the need to spout "wisdom" at the reader constantly. I prefer books that contain wisdom in them to be extracted by the reader and not one where you are told what to think. The wisdom is both irritating and umm not very wise :p

I am enjoying the book - so far. It's good and it's keeping me interested. Can't see why it's such a classic though. For me, it's just average :)

Those two things really irritated me at first when reading Dune, as well.

As to the thoughts of each character: After getting about halfway into the book, this gets less irritating. At least, it did for me, as the action picked up and I became interested enough in the story to not be distracted by the extra thoughts & such. And these thoughts do become important. You learn a lot about the motivations of each person.

As to the tidbits of wisdom: I did eventually just sort of pass over them, but they remained more in focus than the thoughts of the characters.

It took me a while to get into the book, but I really enjoyed it once I finished it and I'm glad I read it. I hope it picks up for you.

Well, i'm already enjoying it! It's a good story with interesting places and characters. Those irritations are not enough to spoil the book for me :)

Thanks for the wishes! :)

Translation, someone, please! :)

Using my excellent linguistic skills (*cough*) I would guess that the second paragraph says something like:

"The film 'Stalker' is based on the book 'Picnic ? ?'" Is this anywhere near correct?

I'm reading The Laughing Corpse by Laurell K. Hamilton. It is part of her Anita Blake series. I am really loving this series. She's funny, witty, and one tough chick!

He borrowed three books from somewhere... the second one being 'Monday begins on Saturday'?

That sounds quite possible. Maybe this can be our inaugural book forum competition. :)

Just finished Dark Tower III: The Waste Lands by Stephen King last night so today I'm going to start Roses are Red by James Patterson.

Yes, I do have trouble getting through one series at a time...
