I cannot believe I am still reading A Personal Matter by Kenzaburo Oe. This book is 150 pages long and I can't seem to get past the first 20 which, because I haven't had time to have a really good go at it, I have to keep re-reading. I hate giving up on something, and as I also have The Silent Cry by Oe to read, I really want to get into this. I've already put aside Tom Holland for the time being, too dry in this heat, and instead of knuckling down I keep picking up quick read thrillers....maybe its just the weather affecting my concentration :(

Reading Earthly Joys by Philippa Gregory. I have read five of her other books and have been increasingly impressed with her style and talent for weaving a story.
You can learn more about her and read some of her short stories at www.philippagregory.com

It's amazing how the short ones can last forever isn't it? :D

As for me, I'm about to start Alan Dershowitz's slim book An American Independence. In it, Dershowitz takes on the notion popular in some circles that the founders were devout men and that America was a christian inspired invention.

I've just started to read Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden . I'm only a few pages in, but already I'm being sucked into the story :D

I read Memoirs of A Geisha when I was only about 11 and it was probably rather 'adult' for me then..but even so, I enjoyed it immensely, it's an incredible book which I think will stay with me forever. :)

Monsignor Quixote by Graham Greene
Synopsis:
With his Sancho Panza a deposed Communist mayor, his faithful Rocinante an antiquated motor car, Monsignor Quixote roams through modern-day Spain in a brilliant picaresque fable that, like Cervantes' classic, offers enduring insights into our life and times.

Currently reading and enjoying Tom Clancy's Op-Center; Mirror Image. The story involves three high level Russian military leaders who set up a rogue operations center under a museum and use it to attempt to start a war in poland to regain eastern europe and depose a reformist president. The U.S. Op-Center counterpart attempts to insert an elite strike force into Russia using a Russian cargo jet and midget submarine to get operatives to the inside.

In reading this book, I'm remembering why I liked Clancy in the first place years ago. His thorough knowledge of military weapons and high tech gadgetry make this(and other recent books of his) an enlightening read and good page turning material. Currently half-way through-will update later on how well the Striker force does in Russia.

I agree - I really love this book and I think it's a candidate for a re-read - a high honour ;) . The story really captivated me and I found that I could hardly put it down. As you said - incredible.

Good choice Robert! I haven' tread that one, but I have a lot of Koontz boks. Amazing how that man just cranks 'em out. :)

Darkfall is the 8th Koontz book I've read and I have two more waiting to be read. I have enjoyed all of the books except for the ending of the Servants of Twilight.
