George R. R. Martin: A Song Of Ice And Fire

Im a third of the way through the 2nd of the 3rd books and oh god! He's killing people off left, right and centre!! I wont say who exactly as its not fair to others. Im liking it so far though. Makes it a little more interesting.

..

i think its going to be interesting to see what becomes of bran as he finds the three eyed crow..i want to read more about jamie lannister in the fourth book hes a farely interesting character..i want the martell's to march upon kings landing (I hate the lannisters for the most part) lol..I am hoping there is less of Sansa in this story.. lol i cant stand her!! My favorite characters in the book are Tyrion, Oberyn (though we hardly got to know him), Arya, Varys, and Jon... The books are brilliant and is the best series I have ever read.

I also think it is neccesary for him to kill of the characters. In other series i read the main characters live forever and are basically immortal. George R.R. Martin's series is more realistic and every character has a equal chance of dying.

a song of ice and fire

most people from all the web sites i've looked at believe the hounds burnt face is on the left side of the face. But in the 2nd book of the series a quote shows it his right side

"Sansa walked on the Hound's left, away from the burnt side of his face"

am i reading this wrong or is everyone wrong?? Not everyone but it seems lots of people elieve its his left side

Man, I just re-read A Game of Thrones and I did not notice. That Gregor is a real piece of work though, eh? I'll see if I can catch the description of Sandor's disfigured face next time I read one of the books.

Defintely agree. Tyrion is IMHO the best written character in epic fantasy.
Worthy of a bump!

Agreed. He stands tall ;) among a very solid and diverse cast of characters.

No one's posted here for a while, but I just finished A Game of Thrones and I had to say something.

I hated this book... while I was reading it... looking back... I cannot wait to read the rest of the series. Martin is brilliant! I can't believe the characters he's created - Eddard was fantastic; I was so impressed with Tyrion; I despise Sansa; I adore Arya; I'm curious about Jon; I can't wait to see what happens with Bran. Such a great plethora of people that I love and hate and then love again. Good stuff.

I've read 'A game of thrones' by George R R Martin along with book 2, 'A clash of kings' and book 3 'A storm of swords'

The books are good, but with profanity in it along with it talks about stuff that immature people wouldn't want to know.

Over all the books are good, I would reccomend it. (to mature people)

I'm just starting 'A Feast for Crows' and I fear what I might do when I finish it. Not sure I can handle having to wait for the next book.

I promised myself to read GRRM's A Ring of Ice and Fire fantasy series soon. I have the books and the hope of beginning the adventure by the end of this year (fingers crossed).

question: How many books are (will be, eventually) in the series?

There were originally going to be 6 in the series, however he couldn't fit as much as he wanted to into one book therefore split the book in two, hence there should now be 7 in the series (or 8 if you buy the UK paperback versions).

A Song of Ice and Fire:

A Game of Thrones
A Clash of Kings
A Storm of Swords (however this is split into two paperback books here in the UK, due to the sheer size of the book - Part One, Steel and Snow and Part Two, Blood and Gold)
A Feast for Crows
A Dance with Dragons
The Winds of Winter
A Dream of Spring

HTH :)

I finished A Clash of Kings a couple of weeks ago and I'm still really enjoying this series. I'm anxious to see what happens, but I'm trying to spread them out so that I won't have to wait so long for the next book to come out.

I have had a long time bias against fantasy novels. I'm not certain why. But I decided to go ahead and give a series a try and after reading many of the posts here about this series I decided to go ahead and give ol' Martin a try. I just finished A Game of Thrones.

I am in awe. How can one craft such a long story so perfectly? He brought this world to life in a way few other authors have done. The character development was certainly a high point. I was surprised by how little of the supernatural was used in the story but the hints of it were enticing.

I know the series isn't completed as of yet so while reading this book I told myself I wouldn't jump right into the next one immediately. But damn it, I want to know what happens!

Oh, and is there something wrong with me because my favorite character is Tyrion?

Game of Thrones

Mods, feel free to move this to the correct section. I couldn't decide where it should go so tossed it in here.

Anyone else reading these? I heard the buzz about them, and then got offered the first 4 on my Kindle FREE. (Please don't ask me how that happened, I just don't understand enough geek to translate) I'm totally hooked.

This is reminiscent of Pillars of the Earth and I really am impressed so far.

I fell for the hype and ordered the Kindle bundle. I started the first one and have since been distracted. There they sit all oned and zeroed, waiting. I hate neglecting books. It's just...so...wrong.
