The series definitely started slacking after the first 3 books. The first 3 were pretty amazing, book 4 was pretty bad, and book 5 is pretty decent but not on the level of the first 3. They are huge books, like 800-1000 pages each. If you like fantasy type of books, with lots of plot twists, you should give them a try.

Why read an uncompleted series?

The Song of Ice and Fire is one of my favorite series and GRR Martin is great. But WHY begin reading a series that will not be finished, I waited 11 years between 2 books. Wait until they are all finished, and then give them a try.
