Yes.

DDo you collect them ?

Yes. I used to have a collection consisting of thousands of specimens but I started paring it down to a few specializations: teeth, claws, jaws, amber with inclusions, and self-collected material. I also have a few interesting crystals and meteorites.

A recent mineral acquisition:

Where have you collected fossils or minerals ?

Places/Locales I have collected: Miocene deposits at Calvert Cliffs, Pennsylvanian concretions at Mazon Creek, Ordovician deposits at Caesar Creek, Pennsylvanian deposits in Western PA, Ice Age stuff in Florida, plus a ton of roadcuts, quarries, and such I can't remember.

Somewhere I have pics of my stuff. I will post them as soon as I find them.

Hi Sparkchaser,
Somewhere I have pics of my stuff. I will post them as soon as I find them.

Oh please, find them soon !! :)
I am a little, Professeur Otto Lindenbrock or Horace B. de Saussure ... I am interested in rocks, minerals, Mountains, Caves, Glaciers ...
But I have some Knowledges in Paleontology .

After reading you, I have more questions.
What kind of Tools do you use to collect Fossils - Crystal rocks ?
Do you use Geological maps and Geological profils for finding fossils or rocks ?? Or only guides ??

I let you some references about Guides.

- Alpes Savoie
- Bretagne
- Normandie Maine
- Pyrénées centrales Franco-Espagnoles
- Pyrenees Occidentales, Bearn, Pays Basque
- Guide géologique - Poitou, Vendée, Charentes

( .... )
Guide du Patrimoine du Poitou - Charentes.
Fossiles typiques du Bordelais.

* I asked you about Geological maps because some guides need a supplementary information . Sometimes, a guide only shows places where have been found some specific fossils .
A Geological map gives more detailed information .

I normally go without tools since I am lazy and prefer to pick up stuff that has already eroded out. Some places necessitate tools like a rock hammer and chisel or a sieve of some sort to be productive.

I have used Geological maps and profiles on occasion but generally I just use a guidebook or a Geological Survey publication and a road map.

Oh, and thanks for the book list. :)

Il n'y a pas de quoi :D I have more guidebooks .

Minéraux, roches et fossiles de Méditerranée - Gilles Cheylan , Thierry Tortosa , Yves Dutour , Eric Turini .

Amazon.de has Minéraux, roches et fossiles de Méditerranée so that's in my shopping cart for my new round of purchases.

They do not have the other two.

I asked you about my book list, because something similar happened to me with regard to some Magazines. ( Although my research was not in Amazon ) .
But at the end I found something else that a mountain. After a 1 year of unusual events or inexplicable situations, I found the sense of an ARCHE .

Amazon.de -They do not have the other two.
If you want I can give you a LINK where you can find these books although the main problem it will be the French Language .
They also send books around the world, even to people who hate the French keyboard

Librairie Decitre : vente de livres scolaires et universitaires, littérature, romans policiers, BD

Minéraux, roches et fossiles de Méditerranée

I have this book :). At least, there are pictures in colour .
By the way, the picture on the cover that shows the skeleton of a dinosaur, actually, it isn't a dinosaur :D

Is it a mammal?

Yes, the French keyboard frustrates me. :p

I will check out that link. Thanks. :D

Is it a mammal?

Yes, Das ist richtig ! It's a Palaeotherium magnum .
I forgot to tell, this book has an useful information about museums , so, you have a look at it online. The fossils belongs to different Departments of the south coast, since the PYRENEES ( Eastern Pyrenees/ Midi-Pyrénées ) , till ALPS ( Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur / Rhône-Alpes ) and also, Corsica .

By the way, Are you Lost in Translation ???

My German is so horrible. This morning before catching the bus I stopped in the bakery to get a coffee. Instead of asking the young woman "What time do you wake up?" (because it was 7AM and she was wide awake) I asked her "Where do you wake up?" Ooops.

Anyhoo, I am going to order those books soon. You can never have too many reference books.

It's funny ! But also, It is an interesting question for the Quantum Physics ! As you know, space-time !!
Although AWAKE as synonymous with ALIVE, it's also an interesting question for philosophers, geologists, mountaineers or Average Joe !
By the way, have you got your count in Decitre ? Do you need help in French ??
I forgot a thing ...
