PBS's Downton Abbey

I love that series. PBS reran it recently and I saw it again. Am patiently waiting for season 2 which will start Sunday.

I liked it when Maggie Smith said, "What's a 'weekend'?" in one of the episodes with the newly anointed heir was dining with the family around the dinner table. At first I laughed, then realized that looked at in another way, I could actually have asked the same question myself over my work.

At which point I immediately did not like it so much.

"PBS's Downtown Abbey" made me think this was about a US remake at first. Which, let's face it, is probably already in the planning stages.

I'm a great fan of the series and have devoured the first two seasons. Season 3 is only waiting for me to finish the Band of Brothers DVD box.

Saw the season 3 premiere of Downton Abbey last night, marvellous, Shirley MacLaine is the American grandmother and really gets a lot of digs in at the 1920's English gentry - some of the snobbery we can laugh at now but I'm sure it was very real and important to people living in those times. Maggie Smith is her usual wonderful self. Well worth watching. :)

I saw it for the first time about two days ago. I'm only two episodes in, but it's fantastic. The writing and acting are top notch, and the historical insight it provides into English Country life is fascinating. I'm definitely all in.

We've just finished the 3rd season, and while we do enjoy it....I was a bit frustrated by the ending. Now, of course, we wait for the 4th season, next January. Gak

So glad that there is going to be a 4th season. The finale for season 3 here in Canada is this coming Sunday although I do know that there has been some disappointment with the ending.

I haven't seen Season 3 yet, but the DVD box is waiting for me.

I'll definitely hate the long wait for Season 4 after that ...

Saw the finale of season 3 last night. Ending maybe not the way I would have liked it but the episode itself with the settings, the characters, the acting - it was great. It is a long wait for the next series but probably worth waiting for.

I agree, I ran the gamut of emotions with, not to give it away, you-know-who from actually hating to OMG! Highlight below for spoiler.

I mean Matthew, of course.

David Mitchell (the comedian not the writer) calls Downton Abbey "souped-up soap" which I think is completely accurate. It's the trashiest period piece on television!

Hmm...I'm not sure if I should admit this or not, seeing as I'm British, but I have never seen an episode of Downton Abbey. Not sure if it appeals to me or not, but I do keep meaning to at least watch the first episode... maybe one day.
