The movie terrified me. We watched it in my English class to learn about the power of persuasion. I was persuaded and wanting to hide under my desk.

My mother has watched it. She found it to be very interesting and informative. We are, however, Al Gore fans and very environmentally active (my daughter is about to turn one and has requested contributions in her name to environmental charities in lieu of toys). I have yet to read the book or watch the movie. I would of course, suggest giving the book a read first. I suspect it would be more informative than the movie.

I think that Gore criticised his own party a bit as well, suggesting that they weren't taking it seriously enough. At any rate, there is overhwelming evidence that our environment is at risk and regardless of what party is in power, something has to be done.
The one thing that did turn me off was the bit about him losing the presidential election. It should have been briefly mentioned, not dwelled on for as long as it was. It kind of made me question the integrity of the movie at the time, although that faded as I got further in.

I've just seen it.
I was really terrified. It seems that the disasters will come faster than we all think.
It reminded me the jewish attutide just before the World War II - "Oh, may be we wil not get affected... Oh, that can not be... "
But the disaster came! Nobody believed that it would happen! I feel exactly like this, with the climate change!
Start using public trasport for God's sake! You will kill here all of us!

I haven't seen it, mostly due to laziness, but I've heard a lot of interesting things about it, from both conservatives and liberals. Sometime, when I get off my lazy ass, I shall go see it. And then do lots of research to try to figure out how much of it's true.

The terrible part with you people that this global-warming and its causes is known already FOR AGES here in Europe. But it is astonishing, how some still do not get it as a sad fact! A common knowledge!
It reminds me of my European friend, who was on a visit to university in LA. He arrived there by underground or something (I do not remember the details now). And his professor who worked in LA university for years, was very surprised that they have an underground there!
People are so ignorant! In Europe, public transport is a triviality, and it is less polluting. Pity that this is not the case for many other places... And it is a pity that people are blind.
Global warming will not bring just a heat or a cold. It will bring war. Masses of people who are running away from Tsunamis and hurricanes, from floods over the coasts - now it happened in New Orleans, but imagine New York and California's coastal cities, all heading deeper into the land.
The movie is not about public transportation, or war, though. It is just about a sad reality. Now, not yet in a future.
Does she even know what that means? I don't see how a one year old can understand an abstract idea like donating to a charity in her name.

Having seen the movie but not having read the book, the movie is plenty informative all by itself. Someone else here tells of seeing it as an example of the power of persuasion. Rhetoric is the art of persuasion and Gore's art does not consist of pretty words. He brings forth evidence upon evidence to establish his inconvenient truth.
I particularly liked the part about the ice cores and the tracking of temperature and CO2 over the millennia.

I didn't like this movie at all. We too had to watch it in our english class (overa three day period) and I was shocked at how many politiccal hits Gore made on the current administration. The part the really irked (sp?) me was when he said somehting like, "Is it possible that we should be worrying about other things besides terrorists?" It is true that obviously we should, but being so close to 9/11 made it sound like... I can't explain, but like I said it really irked me.
I also didn't like how alot of the documentary was about him... I mean really! Ok, so it is his documentary and he can do what he likes based on certain Amendments, but to me it was like he was trying to win over his audience by guilt.
Maybe it was just me though because frankly I am not a huge Gore fan and I am a republican.
It was a bit enlightening however and I think we do need to all cut back on our emissions, but I don't know if anyone saw that thing were Gore was asked if he would lower his emissions (which are way higher than the average citizen) and he refused. I can't remember what was going on, but I saw a video on youtube of him in some kind of court....

I absolutly agree with hannah. We go to the same school and I had to watch it as well. I would shed some light on the situation but I do believe that Hannah covered it all!

I think it was not about 9/11. It was about the pollution. But if we are talking about 9/11: Americans now use it as an excuse to any illogical deed that irkes me myself. What is that thing with the fingerprints for foreigners entering the US? Entering this country makes me immediately a subject-to-a-jail?!! You can shut down your country completely and hang an iron screen all around. Hm, sounds familiar, does not it? And keep your pollution there, too, please.

?I am not familiar with the Gore's statement about not willing to lower down his emissions. I am sure that everybody turns the things around. Let's count how many VERY STRANGE sayings does Bush say? He is the real comedian of your country (to me as a foreigner, at least, who does not really care about the US inner politics).
The only thing I care - (yes, even not the war in Iraq !)-it is the impact that we leave on this planet. And we are polluting it strongly! Interestingly, some big countries refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol. Why? Money? Sound like greedy capitalistic politics. This money could be used already ten thousands time for solar cells development. But no, we let the oil rule! Let it oil!
Instead of building new roads, one should invest in a railway system. It's the same money - more convenient- less polluting! You guys should be more visiting France and Germany to see how nice and convenient the public transport can be! You are paying those taxes - so why not to pay them for the railways instead of the roads?!
And my warmest congreatulations to Gore for the Nobel Prize. The US nation should be proud of having at least this single man who cares.

I didn't mean the movie was about 9/11, but I think it was referred to several times. If our country isn't so great then why are people trying to come here in the first place? I am not against foreigners in the US at all. We are the mutts of the world with a little bit of everything! So when you say pollution, are you including the foreigners that make up America? Some newer ones, or some that have established their lives with many generations here? When I think of Americans, all I see is different types of people from all over the world. Aside from the people of Hispanic descent, everyone in America generated from somewhere over seas.I am not going to sit here and pretend that America is as high and mighty and perfect as some see it, because I don't think it is at all.

Ah. Well, I am a republican and one of my best friends is a democrat. We can always find things to argue about as far as out beliefs in politics
It wasn't something that was "turned around" really. Here is the video I was taking about: DANGIT! it won't let me post a url because I haven't made 15 or more posts. If you are interested in seeing the video, go to youtube and type in "Al Gore Refused to Take Energy Reduction Pledge" because that is the title of the video.
Maybe he agreed later on in the video (don't know why they cut it short) but you can see he didn't jump on it and say "Yes of course I will make the pledge". And even when he was interrupted by the other man when he said "So I guess the answer is no", Gore didn't correct him.
In no way am I saying that I don't agree about cleaning up our planet. When people refer to the future and say, "Oh yeah, in 2 thousand more years we will have floating cars and everything will be all silver and shiny." I can't help but wonder if the human race will be around that long.
Money makes the world go 'round unfortunately. Don't get me started on America's economy! lol! As you are probably aware, the US is trillions of dollars in debt. The value of our dollar is plummeting and the general public has yet to realize it. I don't think our government has any money that is actually theirs, you know? Like that isn't owed to another country. So they keep printing more and more (hence the dollar value decrease) and it doesn't help anything. So yes, I believe our country is desperate for money. Yes, the "money" that the government has could be used for better things than it is now, but technically, the "money" isn't there anyways. They need to constantly build more roads and bridges and wider highways, because more people are popping up all over the place. Obviously 90% (just guessing) is from more women getting pregnant and having 4+ kids, but foreigners contribute to that growth when they come in and start families of their own
