Does that look like him then?

Not Hardly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It reminds me of the section where VN says the picture they tried to use originally reminded him of a
"Republican's notion of a defeated Adlai"

This was before your time, and a different country even, so that reference would not mean a whole lot to you, but Adlai Stevenson was a Democratic Presidential Candidate, and he was a nice enough looking fellow, but he certainly did not look like a "tough". He looked, as I remember, a gentleman. He was a peaceful man and it showed in his demeanor. Here is a link regarding him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adlai_Stevenson

Scroll down to the smiling picture.thats more like Pnin.......http://www.brad.ac.uk/staff/pkkornakov/yeltsyn.htm

I don't know if you saw the second link I put up, I wrote it in an edit, so you may have missed it. I think thats a lot more like VN intended. I googled Russian Muzhik, which VN mentioned in his preferred description.

Oops, I missed it...

This one?

awww.brad.ac.uk_staff_pkkornakov_boris4.jpg

Oh no, he's nothing like the Pnin I have in my head /shakes head/ he's so much gentler than him...

LOL, but you've got it over me, I didn't know how to post the pic! Well, I meant the general geography of his face, remember VN mentioned the typical "Russian Potato Nose"? Thats not how I really think of him either, but it certainly fits better than that other book cover! I don't think VN would be one bit happy about that!

Yeah, I guess so.

To post a pic, right click on the pic, select properties. Highlight the image location and copy it. In your post click on the image button, next to the quote button and right click and paste the link.

It takes a bit of getting used to, but no worse than doing links.

Yeah, the features are all right, I guess. I would imagine him a little thinner though and much much kinder looking. lol :D

Morning all! Yes, SIL those pictures are great! Can you imagine how Nabokov would hate them though!!! They are beautiful, but sooo now what he wanted. /sigh/

Just got home. When's supper?

Hi all,
Just a note to report that my new keyboard is working fine and I haven't yet spilled any coffee on it. However I just noticed I am back on page 3 while you alls are on page 5, and that there is also a nice new Pnin thread on the board, already up to three pages -- Congratulations and yay! -- so I'm going to be reading for a while and will hopefully be back tonight posting.
Feels good to be home,
Missed you all,
Peder

Any pudding/desert - treacle tart and custard sounds just about right - followed by that (just in reach) coffee.

Poor Peder - I can see him now. Brows furrowed in concentration, a smile here and there and lots of clicking:D He'll need a coffee break after all that. May I suggest you take it to the next room:)
