What is your all time favourite Crime, Mystery or Thriller?

Like my writing, my reading tastes in thriller mysteries are rather bizarre. I like humorous thrillers and so absorb gleefully anything by Michael Dibdin, who passed away too young in 2007. Especially enjoy his Aurello Zen detective / Mafia novels based in the Mezzogiorno in Italy - Back to Bolgna is a favourite. Also his Dirty Tricks is a classic for me.
I'm also a big fan of Tibor Fischer, who writes literary thrillers ie he plays around with the sounds and prosody of words. When I discovered his The Thought Gang I was inspired to write my own thrillers. Fischers' book starts with the premise that a few years ago most bank robbers got away with their crime. Also, most bank robbers were below average intelligence (not sure that's true now that banks are trickier to rob!) and so if you take a group of unemployed philosophers, they are sure to make a success of bank robbery as they travel North to South down France.
 
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. Classic. :D
I love Thomas H. Cook quite a lot, my favorite of his is probably Red Leaves, even though it's unbelievably depressing. I really like Gillian Flynn and Laura Lippman's books that aren't part of the Tess Monaghan series too.

Gone For Good - Harlan Coben
Surgeon - Tess Gerritsen

Michael Connelly is also a nice author.

Very hard to pick one but I can remember my scalp actually tingling when I read the last sentence, which was a true zinger, in Harlan Coben's "Tell No One". It gave me the chills and, while many authors have made me want to write them at the end of the book, this stands out in my mind.

Coben's one of those authors who, when you think you've read it all, he adds something to make you jump out of your skin. Love him.

Read Gone For Good from Harlan Coben, It is more striking and riveting than Tell No One.
 
I liked Evil Under the Sun by Agatha Christie and the TV adaptation was great too with Peter Ustinov as Poirot.

I just read The murder of Roger Ackroyd for the first time about a month ago. It had a fantastic ending!

A mystery novel I recently read that I thought was (((GREAT))) was The Secret Keeper, by Kate Morton. Many twists at the end of this book which delighted me immensely. I have now read three of Morton's mysteries and they were all very good.

I haven't read that one yet, but I've read The House At Riverton and [URL='https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3407877-the-forgotten-garden?from_search=true'] The Forgotten Garden and loved them both. [URL='https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6746018-the-distant-hours?from_search=true'] And The Distant Hours will be my next read. Kate Morton is one of my favorite authors.[/URL][/URL]

I've read all but The Distant Hours and though Riverton & Forgotten Garden were both excellent I thought The Secret Keeper was the best so far.

EDIT: I am about to finish The Distant Hours and now I think that THIS BOOK is the best of the lot. It seems that every time I finish a 'Morton book' that book becomes the best. *L* Not only does Kate Morton write a good story but she writes it in beautifully crafted prose.

I agree that Coben's Gone for Good was more riveting than Tell No One. I remember the second one as less a mystery and too repetitve for my tastes. I like Coben's style and characters, though.
 
I can't possibly name one favorite mystery. I hope it's is the next good one that I read.
 
Well I have to at my two favorite series are the Falco and the Detective Chen series. Falco is light hearted and fun while Chen has as many twists and turns as I could wish for :)
 
If I could only pick one...
I would have to say: The Company by Robert Littell.
Its the story of the Cold War as seen through the eyes of various agents of The US , The Soviet Union , along with both countries allies.
Fictional and historic people are characters in the novel.
