Who is your favourite author, and why?

My absolute favourite is Virginia Andrews, I don't know why really it just started off with Flowers In The Attic being by favourite book, then that whole Dollanganger series was my favourite series of all her work. I just love anything she's written, literally every single book she wrote I love. I even like the stuff written by the ghost writer, although it's no where near as good as the stuff she wrote herself. I'm working on collecting all her book (and the ghost written ones), i'm not that far off finished now.

I also love Stephen King, I collect his books too.. I have to admit though I don't like all of his work, Christine for example was just horrible to read but I stuck with it and finished it, vowing to never read it again :-D.

Those are my two main favourites, who I collect books by, but i've added a couple more to my list recently, those being Tess Gerritzen and Philippa Gregory. I love crime novels and I love anything to do with The Tudors, there's loads more authors I like but not that i'd consider my favourite. A favourite for me is one that I love all (or most) of their work and want to buy them all.

Linwood Barclay is absolutely amazing. He writes thrillers that leave you on the edge of your seat. I could read each of his books in one sitting.

Another one of my favorite authors is Jodi Picoult. My girlfriend got me into her. I love her style of writing.

Tess Gerritsen (I love medical thrillers. The Surgeon is my favorite)
Sandra Brown (there are so many to mention. I love how she picks her character)
Romina Wilcox (A new author I discovered. A mix of cyberthriller with a touch of romance.)

But... I am open to reading anything.

Very hard question, and of course, it changes a lot.
Current favs:
Stuart Hill, J.K. Rowling, Karen Traviss, Aaron Allston, Lisa Lutz, Nevada Barr, Dee Henderson, Suzanne Collins, Orson Scott Card, Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn series), Vivian Vande Veld (lovely, little, twisted tales)

Definitely Pat Conroy, even though "South of Broad" was flipping terrible. All his other books are incredible though, I'm pretty sure for that one he was either all wacked out on SSRIs or something, or just had it ghost-written.

Didn't seem like the same author at all, which was heartbreaking after how incredible all his other books were.

My favorite authors?

I have a lot....
Daniel Steward (his expertise on dressage is awesome); Sandra Brown, Tess Gerrittsen and Romina Wilcox (they are good in depicting their main characters).

Illusion by Paula Volsky. I loved the book when I first read it and have never found a book that could match it...although I have read excellent books since that I would highly recommend for different reasons.

All time — Hemingway, currently, Stieg Larsson, and Christopher Hitchens.

There was a time when I found this question difficult to answer, but after going on three decades of consistently impressing me with his work and after have read and re-read just about everything he's ever written multiple times, I have to say Stephen R. Donaldson is my all-time favorite author.

My current favorite is Amanda S. Sanges, author of Devils and Dreamers: A Pukking Grand Novel. :)

Non-fiction;Paul Johnson
Poet: Ambrose Bierce
Dramatist;Arthur Miller
Religion/Theology;Anything Sufi oriented

I have to say Stephen R. Donaldson is my all-time favorite author.

I used to adore Donaldson's books, and I had them all. But when I tried to reread them a few years ago, I found my taste had changed so much I couldn't even get into them.

Please stop promoting this book you or your wife wrote. Thank you.

I take it Harper Lee is your favourite author, Author? Care to explain why?

I'd also be interested in your reasons, Author. Not that I question or doubt them, because the book is a favorite of so many readers, but (true confession) it is a book I myself have never been able to get curious about. I have the feeling I almost know the story already, but here's my chance for a new look at it. So, what are your reasons, AQB? :)
