Who is your favourite author, and why?

I read a lot of crime novels and thrillers and I would say that Peter Robinson, Val McDermid and C. J. Box are three of my favourites in the area of crime fiction - and I like Vince Flynn, Brad Thor and Lee Child for the thriller type book. I also read a lot of other authors and find there are a great many whose books I usually enjoy.

I also liked Daphne du Maurier and read books by her when I was younger and remember them, especially Rebecca. I found Mrs. Danvers a really creepy character, Ms. du Maurier knew how to set the stage well.

Peter Robinson's series featuring Inspector Banks has always been interesting and now I'm reading the book Before the Poison and it's a stand alone book featuring a more sophisticated character than Inspector Banks - a totally different voice and is set in a big old house in Yorkshire where a murder had taken place.

Flynn, Thor and Child are always disposing of the 'bad guys' which is satisfying as we seem to have a lot of baddies around, particularly the terrorists - it would perhaps be more satisfying if it wasn't fiction!

So most of my favourites are 'now' type books - nothing too deep but ones I find a pleasure to read. :)

My favorite is Catherine Aird, read them all several times and waiting for the next one.
She is one of the two authors who require me to keep a dictionary nearby. Although the Franklyn Bookman seems to think I making up those strange new words. And then there is the "defective detective" Crosby "who likes driving fast cars fast".

Hi everyone,am quite new at this so pardon any mistake.for me I can't really say ve got a favourite author per se...cos I read different genres of books, from romance to thrillers but ve got some authors I particularly like...sandra brown, sydney sheldon, dan brown and well topping d list should be Robert Ludlum(dint understand d phrase adrenaline pumping until I read his books....

At the moment, Martin Amis.

Why? Becuase his style is his own, his writing is bold, unashamed, and for me very funny. More importantly though, he writes intelligent, complex books that require real thought. His fascination with the Grotesque and the slight arrogance that he writes with swing it for me.

Well,I can't pick a favourite X'D I like Suzanne Collins, J.K. Rowling, Meg Cabot ,Lisi Harrison and many more ^^ I mean, they write great and long stories,like... The Hunger Games triology, Harry Potter and WHERE-R-U series

My favourite author is and always will J. R. R. Tolkien. His LOTR trilogy is not just book to me. It´s an amazing story who brings into my life many new optimism and fact, that we have always hope and we can change our live

I have no favorite author. I'll never have the time to read enough books to really know anyway. How many authors have I not read? Countless. Are they my favorites? Probably only until I read others I haven't read... ad infinitum...

I think right now my favorite author is Kelley Armstrong. She has a habit of writing to make you feel for the charaters she's writing about. Her books grab you and hold you tell you reach the end. Most of her books I've read are series though.

Ned Vizzini and Chetan bhagat. Both of their books are so interesting and they touch topics that a lot of teenagers go through. YOU HAVE TO READ THEIR BOOKS!

Depends on what I'm reading. Amanda Quick and Judith McNaught are my favorite romance authors because of their quick wit and funny but realistic styles of writing (if there has to be a 200 page misunderstanding, at least it's a believable one). Barbara Hambly in fantasy because I like how she transports you into her world--LOVED Those Who Hunt the Night. Currently, R. Lee Smith for dark fantasy/erotica because you get your money's worth. Her books are LONG, descriptive, creepy and she takes you places you never thought you wanted to go, but yet were helpless not to follow her into. And last but not least, Maren Smith for smut, because she does romantic, funny, light fetish and plots (for smut--go figure) and I'm just that kind of girl. :D

I forgot Stephen King for straight up horror. Dark Tower series--nuff said. (And yes, I liked the ending!)

At the risk of being yelled at....hahahahaha....my favorite author right now is still Stephenie Meyer, and NOT because of TWILIGHT. Her writing style is amazing to me. I love how she puts you inside her characters heads, and I love some of the descriptiveness she uses. Have other authors done it bigger and better? Probably...most definitely....but the way she writes just captures you. A book that can make you cry, laugh and shake your head all in a few chapters....now that's an author worth adding to your fav author list! Check out The Host by Stephanie Meyer if you aren't a Twilight fan...Read it...I mean really really read it.... You'll fall in love! I promise!

At the moment, I'd say my favourite author is Haruki Murakami. I don't tend to read many books by the same author, but I've read three of his. I've yet to find a writer who I've really been compelled to go on to read his or her ouvre. Then again, I'm not the most prolific reader.

Homer Hickam is really good at taking real life and making it theatrical without taking away any of the reality, and I think that's why Rocket Boys was so good. October Sky was my favorite movie for a long time, and then like a year or so ago I finally got around to reading the book and liked it even more and then this year we read it in LA, I think everyone who bothered to read it liked it too. It's just sort of... charming

Carolyn Meyer has a great series called Young Royals...about queens and princesses from the past, mostly the royals from England. I think the most recent one is Mary Queen of Scots.
