    New Site Design - Why?

Thanks for all the feedback so far - good and bad. It is still a work-in-progress so there will be bugs which need fixing, colours tweaking etc etc.

    What's your favourite period?

To start off this new area, I'll open up the discussions with a general question. What's your favourite period for historical fiction?

    Personal book list

A personal book list is a good idea. Bandwith and server space are not a problem, but it would require some custom programming to develop. Our library software can keep track of books that each member have reviewed but it can't create public/private lists. I'll have a think about how we could...

    My post does not show

I think that this is a bug with the current version of vBulletin forum software as a few other forums have reported it. I'll look into it though.

    suggestion: historical fiction forum

We'll be looking at adding some more "bookshelf" forums in the near future, once our site overhaul is well underway. As long as the forum looks like generating some interest, we'll consider it.

Upcoming Site Downtime 20th and 21st May 2006

This coming weekend (20th and 21st May), we'll be migrating the forums to our new upgraded site. A lot of the work has already been done, but there will be some downtime over this weekend. All being well, the old pages will redirect to the new site so there shouldn't be too many problems...

    Search in Members List

It's a limitation of the vbulletin forum software we use. You can't sort on additional fields like location, currently reading etc.

    New Forum Possibility for Authors

Doesn't the "Writers' Showcase" forum do that, or are you thinking of something more direct?

    New Forum Possibility for Authors

OK. Just read through this. Moto: I didn't get an email from you for some reason - maybe it got lost somewhere. Sirmyk: Sarcasm and little digs at me won't get you anywhere. I read all the emails and PMs people send to me, but I do have a day job as well as keeping this site online. I try...

    The front page www.thebookforum.com

Yes, the front page is badly in need of updating :o I've been waiting for an update to the software which runs the front page, which has been a bit slow in coming. There is a facility for people to login and create articles which would be shown on the homepage though. I'll try to...

    Changes to the site

We might remove the warning bar from the main thread pages and just keep it on the profile page - hasn't been fully evaluated yet. The google search bar will most likely remain gone, but the google ads block will return as it's a major source of income for the site (we get paid for every...

    Changes to the site

We're thinking about implementing a new warning system and that counter will keep track of where you're at.

    Suggestion for forum software upgrades

The warn % is a piece of experimental code. We're considering implementing a new warning system rather than having to keep track of things manually. The currently reading will come back soon.

    Suggestion for forum software upgrades

Most upgrades are minor - bug fixes etc. This one adds some new features, some of which I'm still exploring myself :) The main vbulletin website is at www.vbulletin.com and the announcment re v3.5.0 is here.
