Why not post a list of forum members you think are trolls under this thread? It would spark some interest, and would also determine who would/wouldn't bother posting with you in the future.

If you have concerns please could you email a member of the Moderating team rather than posting them on here.

Thank you.

Interesting split we have-it's fair to say that opinon is roughly split right down the middle.

That's cause all the trolls voted for the third option.

In my opinion they are just penguins in disguise. ["Cute and cuddly boys, cute and cuddly."]

Every forum has trolls. This one does, too.

My definition of one is a person who addresses you in a taunting way without ever addressing you before on a message board.

I'm really curious to know what prompts trolls to be trolls? I mean what do they enjoy about being so disagreeable? Is this more of a guy thing or do you think gals do it too?

Sometimes you have to push various buttons to understand others. I pushed leckert's belly button and he made that Pilsbury Doughboy "hehe" noise.

:D

I hate to say this, but it wasn't puddin'!!

I do wish you would either push my belly button more frequently, or not start pushing at all, though! :D

(flowers would be nice, too!)

A metaphor, if you will...the forum is a house. There happens to be a large tree growing next to this house, with a large branch growing right over the house. Now, the newest teneants to this house are afraid that the large branch will fall on them and cause damage. They want to chop up the branch so it can't. While the other memebers of the house tell them not to worry. Yet, they still persist in their own world of the branch is going to hurt them.

When all they really need to do is sit back and keep their mouth shut for awhile as a few storms go by to see that nothing is going to happen. But fear is a bitch and like to have the drivers' seat.

Besides all that, this really reminds me of a witch hunt.

So, then, I assume this is how you behaved when you came aboard?

I am not sure what makes this appropriate behavior for everyone? I, for one, cannot bear to "sit back and keep my mouth shut", and refuse to do so. If I offend someone (which I certainly have), tough shit. They can hit the "ignore" button, submit a complaint to the moderators, or FLAME me in a response. That's how this game works. It is not possible to control the actions of other people. All we can control are our own actions and our own attitudes.

I am not sure what the "branch" represents in your metaphore, but I am the type of person who sees a branch hanging over the house, and climbs up to it, shimmy's out to the center of it, and starts jumping up and down screaming "IS IT GONNA BREAK???" If all we had here were clones who had the same personality and "sat back and kept their mouths shut" this would be a 'bulletin board', not a forum. We would all read postings from "seasoned" members, biting our hands, and squirming like little blobs of jelly waiting until we were senior enough to actually post something.

People are people. That's what this is all about. Talking to people, and having personalities. We can't expect others to fit an ideal "newbie" model we have in our heads.

and, by the way, I think my opinions have merit, and I have engaged in some very interesting and entertaining conversations with some of the folks here, in spite of my mere 70 days of membership.

The number of days one has attributed to a forum does not necessitate rank. Unless you are one of the moderators, we are basically equals.

Wow, I get on the board at the end of the day and what do I see?? Yep, nooooooo problem at all.

Don't assume look at my past posts and draw your own conclusions.

But if you were listening, that isn't what this thread is about. It is about controlling others' actions.

Then why should they (the others) fit into a model of a troll?

Of course you do, they are yours, after all. You seemed to have missed my post about not listening. Have you ever seen Pulp Fiction, the director's cut? Well, in it there is a scene where they are trying to define what type of person Vincent Vega is, a listener, or "one who waits to talk."

Best way to attract trolls - to have a thread about them. Any troll doing a search will find it and have a field day.

Oh yes RainbowGurl, you are one of the worst sort. When I get PMs from people, it's ALWAYS about you and we talk about what an emotional midget you are.

Sometimes I am the one that sits below this branch (with a mulcher), waiting for it to break and waiting for the branch, as well as the dimwit jumping up and down on it, to fall to the ground. Then I pick that dimwit up and throw him in the mulcher. I agree that if we have a personality, we should at least do this forum the honors of expressing that personality, otherwise we'd all be sitting back, drinking tea, stroking our mustaches and readjusting our spectacles, going "n'yes... hm-hm-hm-hm-hm. Righty-O, young chap!"

Unless they are spammers. Throw 'em to the mulcher.

N'yes... very interesting. Hm-hm-hm-hm-hm. Good show.

Sometimes I want to throw stinky bath-salts at the people who act like the kid with no friends at school who, who, who, who keeps telling the teacher that we're being naughty when-all-we're-doing-is-having-some-fun or engaging in a debate which is slightly more contentious than 'What's your favorite chocolate cookie?'... Fight the power! I'm calm like a bomb.

Dribble, dribble.
