Vladimir Nabokov: Lolita

Peder said:
To all and every,
While everybody [ ] is around, I thought I would mention here also that the thought has come up that maybe we need a new catch-all thread to hold all of our different kinds of topics that are coming into the discussion. Lolita/Enchanter are not quite enough anymore. Or it could be a Pnin thread if that was a book we all wanted to get behind for discussion, but that would still leave other topics loose. (like afterlife in VN)

So reactions being sought on a new thread, and what kind. Anyone?

Peder

Maybe a general Nabokov thread?
"Nabokov et al." "Discussing The Literary Great" LOL :D :D

"The Most Discussed Author in the History of TBF Thread" ;)

And Peder, what a fantastic memory! I always get confused 'cause we go forward an hour to British Summer Time in the spring

Peder
It would have to have Nabokov's name in it for "Search" purposes.
Nabokov du Jour...
All Nabokov All the Time
Extenuating Nabokov (similar to extenuating circumstances)
Everything Nabokov

Or just plain "Nabokov"

:D  ;)

possible new thread

A search for threads with Nabokov in the title turned up two Lolita's, one Enchanter, one Tutorials (for the short stories), and one Question. I didn't see a Nabokov author thread (surprise), or a general Nabokov thread, or a Pnin thread (no surprise). So it sounds like we have our free choice right now for what kind of thread and where to put it. Ideas, still?

Peder

Maybe under Author Discussion would be best. Because if we are to discuss some of the extenuating bios of Nabokov, it wouldn't be applicable under Fiction any longer.

Yeah Author Discussion. We're slowly taking over the book forums! First Book of the Month, then Fiction, now Author Discussion hee hee ;) :D :D

Author Discussion for general purposes, and when we are ready to get into a specific book, then a new discussion in Fiction.

ROTFALOL

That did really have me laughing out loud.
A good sense of humor is a prime prerequisite for joining I now realize!
Good one Steffee, good one!

Is this anything like Day of the Triffids?

Peder

It is getting to sound like a landslide, or at least a small snowball, for a new Nabokov Author thread. (Every book forum ought to have one of them anyway :) ) With maybe a pedestrian title like

Vladimir Nabokov - general discussion

so that any new threads for individual books or topics could be, e.g.

Vladimir Nabokov - Pnin

Maybe put it up in a day's time to allow further comment from those absent or lurking?

Just thinking out loud. Anyone is encouraged to comment.

Peder

Yeah we should have a Nabokov sub-forum! With individual Lolita / Enchnter / Ada / Pnin (I just swapped one of my books for The Gift :) ) etc, threads.

It would never happen but the idea is nice :)

Yes Peder, sounds good, maybe Still and SFG and others might have some thoughts too :D

Have you read The Day of the Triffids???
Pontalba,
No, I haven't.
But I have heard enough that I am now wary about any plant that grows up outside my window -- especially since my window is on the fourth floor :D

ROTFPMSL!! :D :D :D

I'm so glad I stayed up to see this thread.

Now I need sleep, still LOL :D :D

Well, /sniff/ I suppose plainer is better.......logically speaking.
pontalba,
I am really open to any suggestion.
"Everything Nabokov" sounds good, and then Pnin will just get a different kind of title. No problem here with that.
I'll scout the Author titles and see what we might have without completely wrecking the decor down there. :) "All Nabokov All the Time" has flair.

Peder
You smoothie you! LOL

Yes, one must be extra careful on the 4th floor, that is favorite Triffid Level. :p :p :D

Seriously, its quite a good little story. Much more to it than flesh eating plants. Its more a tale of human survival. In fact the main male character rates as one of my favorite characters in fiction. Very understated.

Pontalba et al,
Pretty much plain author names down there, athough some leading questions and other kinds of statements. The two mentioned above (from Pontalba) wouldn't necessarily break the mold, and if they were too far out could be adjusted by a mod I would suppose. So maybe we should live a little.
Who do we love?
Nabokov!
