Vladimir Nabokov: Lolita

steffee said:
I have Closer here, just arrived this morning actually, from a dvd rental online thingy, but now it's been mentioned here, on the Lolita thread itself, I can't wait to watch it!
:(
Steffee,
That means you can tell us what you think of it without being off-topic. /evil grin/ :D

Peder...did you mean Helen Mirren?
Pontalba,
Nooo... I saw the actress I was thinking of in a great BBC-America TV series about 4-6 episodes long and when I looked her up she was quite famous in England, although maybe perhaps on the boards i.e. legitimate theater. So let me get the Baker Street Irregulars onto it and maybe I can find her.
Although if Steffee couldn't ......
Hmph :(

LOL, I don't know that many famous British actors (to be PC, but what is wrong with actresses anyway, hmph).... I'll keep searching though....

Peder - do you mean Miranda Richardson? Out of Blackadder... clicky

Got her!

The drama in question was "Reckless."
It had Robson Green, for all the ladies out there. :)
And it had tah-dah: Francesca Annis as the 'older' woman he fallls in love with. (That sounds like Pamela Richardson doesn't it? )
And here is the link, where you can see them extreme left and right

Reckless

She could attract me into a dark movie theater any day!

Peder

PS Thanks for all the helpful hints. :)

LOL Peder. Yes, Francesca Annis sounds very like Pamela Richardson awww.prisontalk.com_forums_images_smilies_nono.gif ;)

I haven't seen Reckless, but Robson Green is fab!

I can't say he is exactly my cup of tea though.
My cup is more Sean Connery......at any age or James Mason.
Oh Well, outta my league! :D

BTW Steffee,
Your two lower images are coming out as little boxes with X's here, for no reason I can see. That site seems to be down? The clicky URL works fine.

Hmm. I haven't a clue why that happens. It doesn't matter really, because it's the wrong person, but just in case you're feeling left out because you can't see them...

Steffee, Pontalba,
I don't know why either, especially since Michael Caine and Natalie Portman are looking just fine up there in you other post, and I don't see any diffference in your IMG link syntaxes. So it has to be something strange with my setup here. But I'll get it tracked down.

Now they are definitely there!
And very nice pictures indeed. :)

Both Mirren and Annis are way too thin. :D

pontalba, have you finished Vera? I wanted to discuss it with you. Maybe I'll just do it in this post in an invisible spoiler. For those of you who haven't read Vera yet, please read the following with your eyes closed:

About three quarters of the way through Vera I began to realize that I didn't really much like either V or V. At that point my Nabokovian obsession was apparently (although perhaps only temporarily) cured. I will still read Pale Fire and Ada and probably Pnin at some point, but the bloom seems to be off the rose. How did you fare with Vera's biography? :(

Hey there SIL, I posted to you on that subject over in The Enchanter thread today. Not quite, but I put some other thoughts in as well. :) Just when you think its wearing down, Vera pulls ya back in there!

The sound you hear is SIL tottering off to read the TE thread. ;)

I haven't read Vera but I read the invisible spoiler anyway :) and have to say I have been trying not to read that, or Speak, Memory for fear of being put-off him (and her). I don't know why, I just think there's something to find out that I don't want to know...

Peder, I think that actress = less stature = less work and less money. Maybe the word actress began to be considered synonymous with the word starlet, and therefor sounded sort of dismissive?

Steffee, bad you!  :D Don't pay any attention to me. I'm probably just being snippy, and will completely change my mind here soon anyway.

Its good to admit when one is wrong....... :D  ;) :p /running as fast as I can/

SIL,
The severity of your comments is certainly open to misinterpretation. I hope I have not done so by my response.
