This novel seems, more than others IMO, to raise exactly the question of who in the novel resembles whom in real life. Why more than others of his novels? Perhaps because of the very great detail that VN lavishes upon the story in the early pages and which continues for quite a while. But also because in the introduction VN gives that summary of who's (like) who, and who isn't, which I think is the greatest number of hints that we have seen him give a reader. And he again comments on how misunderstood Russian emigres were by the western press. So some parts, at least, of what he writes we can recognize as definitely real. And Oh, BTW, he does not neglect a mention of Freud!
I'm now about half way and enjoying all the coffee and pastries. (As well as the book of course.)

Last night I found one (the Lolita screenplay actually) had migrated upstairs, and I brought that bad girl right down and put her in her rightful place! /contented sighing heard/

Just checked "Alphabet in Colors" over on amazon. Sort of pricey for a thin book, but the colors may be well worth it. In combination with Strathern's "Nabokov in Ninety Minutes," though, the combination price doesn't sound so bad. But still it is two slender books.
In case anyone here buys by the pound

SIL Those are beautiful! Such delicate colors, hmmmm raising Nabokovians....thats a wonderfully scary thought...!StillILearn said:Actually, those would make pretty pictures for the library walls, wouldn't they? Or if one raised one's small children up with them on the walls of the nursery, I guess we'd maybe be raising up a crowd of synesthesiacs, if not of actual Nabokovians. It's a thought.
Nabokov in Ninety Minutes? Sounds fascinating!
